Note 4 Freezes Not Booting
Problem: Hi there, my note 4 has been experiencing random hanging and reboots for quite awhile and the battery calibration was really bad too. I thought it could be a battery problem and so i bought a replacement battery from anker, off amazon. It worked better for a while, the battery calibration problem was gone but the random hanging and reboots were still present, although less frequent. 2 weeks after installing the battery, the phone suddenly froze up during charging and the only way to reset it was to remove the battery. Upon reinserting the battery, i found that the phone would no longer boot up nor charge and it has been like that ever since. I tried soft resetting the phone, removing the battery for a day before reinserting and even tried the old original battery but the problem still persists. I am now confused as to which particular hardware is broken in my phone though. Any advice on this? Thank you very much for your time! Cheers
Solution: The first thing you should suspect in this case is that the battery is not being charged which in turn causes the phone not to turn on. Try to troubleshoot this condition first by following the steps listed below. Move to the next step should the problem persist.
- Sometimes dirt lodged in the charging port causes the phone not to charge. Clean the port using a can of compressed air or by blowing to it using a straw. Charge your phone for 20 minutes then try to turn it on.
- Try using a different charging cord and wall charger when charging your phone.
- Try using a different battery.
If the phone still does not turn on then check if you are able to start the device in recovery mode. If you can access this mode then I recommend you do a factory reset from here. Take note that this will delete your phone data so only proceed if you have a backup copy.
If the above steps fail to fix the problem then I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center as this could already be a hardware issue. Some of the possible causes of this include a bad charging port, faulty power IC, or a defective motherboard.
Note 4 Turns Off For No Reason
Problem: Hi, after the last samsung upgrade my beautiful note 4 started to go crazy turning off for no reason not switching off if pressing the switch on button not responding to commands unless switched off manually. Staying on without the battery and showing a big android saying downloading do not switch off target! – Actions taken: I saved all contents, removed the sd card, replaced with a new battery, reset the phone to initial factory settings, removed all photos on the phone, cleaned all caches, removed all non samsung authorized apps. Checked viruses. The phone is clean with plenty of memory with bright screen and very quick but it still closes switches off for no reason and the downloading do not turn off target appears. I must: open the phone, remove the battery, reinstall the battery, switch it on and it works fine for a while but as soon as I close the samsung s view cover it goes back to the problem. I am not closing the cover. Also when I plug it to the wall to load the battery, the battery goes to 100%, but when I unplug it it blocks and I have to remove the battery and switch it in manually. A nightmare but I love my note 4. Can anybody pls help me? It is like brand new bright and quick as just purchased. Cleaned well treated
Solution: You have already done most of the troubleshooting steps that can be performed by a phone owner. One other option that you can consider is to downgrade the phone software back to Lollipop. Since you mentioned that this issue only occured right after the Marshmallow update then it’s worth checking of this update is indeed causing the problem. Instructions on how to flash the previous software version can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.
If the issue still remains at this point then you should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked as this may already be a hardware related problem.
Note 4 Powers Off Then Restarts
Problem: So i just purchased my phone a few days ago and immediately before i installed apps or anything, my phone would power off and restart itself. It sometimes does it once, and sometimes a few times in a row. While at work yesterday, it restarted 22 times without me touching it, using any apps, or anything. I tried a hard reset, tried disabling some of the apps like google movies and stuff that comes factory that i don’t use and take up memory. I tried downloading the most current software. Nothing has helped. My phone did not come with a warranty.
Solution: It looks like the phone might already have a hardware issue before you bought it. Some of the things you can do on your end to resolve this issue are listed below. Move to the next step is the issue still persist.
- Try replacing the phone battery with a new one.
- If your phone has a microSD card installed then try to remove it then check if the issue still occurs.
- Try starting your phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it’s very likely that an app is causing this problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Start your phone in recovery mode then observe if the phone restarts in this mode. If the issue does not occur then the phone software might be causing the problem. I suggest you flash a stock Lollipop firmware in your phone. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.
If the issue still occurs after performing the steps listed above then you should have your phone checked at a service center as this i s most likely a hardware problem already.
Note 4 Won’t Stay On
Problem: My Samsung Galaxy Note 4 won’t stay on. It takes along time to charge, even if im using the fast charger. It mainly stays on 0-1% It was on 18% once and i turned it on, downloading a anti virus app on google play store. It downloaded and it instantly went to 0% and shut off (while plugged in) Sometimes i’m lucky enough and it doesn’t shut off as quick as it does. I went on the anti virus app and cleared all virus so now i dont know whats wrong. Is it the phone itself or the battery, or if the antivirus app worked. Please help if you can!
Solution: The quickest way to check if the battery is causing this issue is to replace it with a new one. If the issue still occurs even if the phone is using the new battery then the problem could be software related. I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
One other thing, there are also cases where the microSD card can cause this kind of problem. If your phone has a card installed then try removing then check if the phone issue still occurs.
Note 4 Stopped Charging
Problem: my phone suddenly stopped charging. I unplugged it and plugged it again (the USB cable to the phone) and the charging symbol appears only for a couple of seconds and then disappears and doesn’t charge. I tried different cables and wall sockets but it didn’t work. this problem occurred once but for some reason after plugging in for number of times..it started working but this time it won’t work.
Solution: Try cleaning the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or by blowing to it using a straw. Your aim is to remove any dirt or debris that could be present in this port and is causing this charging issue. Try to check if the phone is now able to charge.
Sometimes a faulty battery can also cause this issue. Try getting a new battery and see if this helps fix the issue.
If the problem still occurs at this point then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked. It’s either the charging port of your phone is damaged or there could be a component inside the phone that is failing.
Note 4 Reboots If Not Connected To Charger
Problem: Cell will try to reboot even with a full battery but never load just the black screens that say verizon and galaxy note 4, it never loads until I plug it into a charger, once connected to a charger phone works fine, once unplugged it starts the rebooting thing until it runs the battery completely dead, any ideas?
Solution: You should try replacing the battery with a new one to check if the current battery is causing this problem. If the issue still occurs then proceed with checking if the phone software is causing this issue by backing up your phone data then doing a factory reset.
If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
Note 4 Turned Off Stuck In Samsung Logo
Problem: My Note 4 turned off suddenly and the samsung logo appears and disappear again frequently. I am afraid to remove the battery from it. is this a software update ? I don’t know. what can I do? if I take it to an area which has not WIFI is this will make a problem?
Solution: This issue usually occurs when the phone software does not continue loading. To resolve this issue try to perform the steps listed below. Move to the next step should the issue still occur.
- Take out the battery and the microSD card. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then turn on your phone.
- Connect your phone to its charger then try to turn on your phone. If the phone turns on normally then the problem could be caused by a weak battery. Replace the battery with a new one.
- Start the phone in recovery mode. If you are able to access this mode then I suggest you do a factory reset from here. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding.
