Pokémon GO has surpassed 50 million downloads on Android

Pokemon GO

Pokémon Go has become a global sensation ever since it was released on Android and iOS. While it’s not quite international yet, thanks to unofficial APK downloads, it’s safe to say that the game has caught on in global markets. But if we speak about official downloads, well, a quick glance through the Google Play Store reveals that the game has been downloaded nearly 50 million times already. It’s only been 20 days since the game was released. Mind you, these are downloads and not necessarily active users (although we don’t think that number would too far out).

Pokémon GO functions on augmented reality, allowing users to catch new Pokémon while they’re out and about using the camera viewfinder and GPS. It’s a pretty fun game, really, even if you’re not a fan of the series. However, authorities around the world have had to warn players against proactive usage after instances of players walking into police stations and other restricted areas in search of new Pokémon.

Are you one among the 50 million (official) Pokémon GO players on Android?
