S5 Unable to Receive Or Send MMS
Problem: Today I connected my Verizon phone to metropcs and I am not able to receive or send mms pictures. The lady at metro did warn me that this happens often with the galaxy s4 & s5. Is there anything I can do to fix this ?
Solution: Whenever you change phone carriers you also need to change the APN setting of your phone so that you will be able to use your mobile data subscription and send / receive picture messages using the new carrier.
Since you are now using MetroPCS just change the Verizon APN of your phone to the MetroPCS APN which I have listed below.
- Name: MetroPCS
- APN: fast.metropcs.com
- Proxy: Not Required
- Port: Not Required
- Username: Not Required
- Password: Not Required
- Server: Not Required
- MMSC: https:// metropcs.mmsmvno.com/mms/wapenc
- MMS proxy: leave it blank
- MMS port: leave it blank
- MCC: 310
- MNC: 16
- Authentication type: Not Required or just use the default value shown
You should also make sure to turn on the mobile data switch of your phone since sending an MMS requires a mobile data connection.
S5 Sending Text Message Lag
Problem: Outgoing texting is extremely laggy, sometimes as I type and it’s doing nothing, it will suddenly “catch up” and double nearly all of the 1st few words. This is very annoying and was never a problem until after Marshmallow. Also, when I restart the phone, a constant occurrence now to try and fix these types of issues, it does not come back on to my normal home page/screen, it always now restarts to the last page I have icons on.
Related Problem: Texting is very slow and therefore uses a lot of battery. It takes a long time for things to load, type, and send.
Solution: If you experience a lag when composing a text message you might want to try to clear the cache and data of the text messaging app first as some temporary data of the app could be causing this issue. Once this is done check and see if the issue still occurs. If the problem still remains then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step should the problem still occur.
- Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S5 Messages App Has Stopped Working Error
Problem: In Android MESSAGES, I can text using alphanumeric characters, but when I hit the ‘smiley face’ to add pictures to my text, it pops up a box and says “Messages has stopped working” and has an “OK” button in it. If I hit the previous screen button or hit the OK, MESSAGES crashes and when brought back up has deleted without sending my current text. None of the previous texts are affected and I can receive emoticons in messages sent by others.
Solution: The same troubleshooting steps that we suggested in the previous issue applies to this problem. First, try clearing the cache and data of the messaging app as temporary data stored in the app could be causing the problem. If this doesn’t work then proceed with wiping the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode. One final troubleshooting step that you can do should the issue still occur at this point is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
S5 Hyperlink In Text Message
Problem: I was texting my girlfriend and in my text I put “”wwwwwww you love.me” I don’t know the the dot was there and it hyperlink that to some web site. You can imagine how that looked, I tried to duplicate the text but it wouldn’t work it only did it that one time for some reason and I don’t understand what happened? Please help. Thank you
Solution: By default the hyperlink setting of the text messaging app is switched off. You might have turned this on. To check if this is the case open the text messaging app then tap on its menu key. Click on settings then scroll all the way down then tap on Safe Mode. From here if there is a check mark on the setting for “Allow access to all links” it will open up the webpage once the link is tapped.
S5 Not Receiving Text Messages
Problem: I can send texts out to people but when the people to reply to me i never get it. It says sent on their phone but i never received it on my phone. Please please help me asap.
Solution: Try to check if you have placed their numbers in the block list. You should also check the spam box if the messages appear here.
- Open Messaging app.
- Tap and then select Spam messages.
- All blocked messages will be displayed here. If necessary, you can read or even delete blocked messages from here.
If you haven’t blocked any numbers or if the messages are not in the spam list then start your phone in Safe Mode. Check if you are now able to receive messages in this mode. If the messages arrive then a third party app installed in your phone might be causing this problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the problem persists at this point you should try to do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup first before doing this.
S5 Not Getting Picture Messages When Using Wi-Fi
Problem: When I am connected to my WIFI at home, I do not receive picture messages when sent. I get the following message: “message not found”.
Solution: One requirement in sending and receiving a picture message is that the mobile data should be enabled since the message is sent this way. Try to turn off your Wi-Fi then turn on the mobile data switch of the phone. Check if the issue still occurs.
