Samsung Galaxy S5 Software Update Temporarily Unavailable Issue & Other Related Problems

S5 Software Update Temporarily Unavailable

Problem: My Samsung Galaxy S5 is a Verizon phone but i have a T-Mobile Sim (Verizon Galaxy S5 on T-Mobile network). When i try to update my phone and click check for new software update, it says “Software update is temporarily unavailable. Try again later.” it keeps saying this whenever i try. i factory reset my phone, restarted it and still nothing. i also try downloaded Kies and Smart Switch and tried to update it, but it say is on the current software. i know marshmallow is out for my phone but how can i update it. PS. I am not going to root my device, so can you find another way then rooting it to fix the phone. Thank You.

Solution: Since this was previously a Verizon phone then it’s software had been designed to check for updates on the Verizon servers which you are now unable to access since the phone is now running on the T-Mobile network. Aside from getting your phone back to the Verizon network to get the update the only other option that you have right now is to flash the phone with the latest software update. If this is the option that you will take then just check on the popular Android forums online for instructions on how to perform this procedure.

S5 You Device Is Up To Date Check Back After 24 Hours time Error

Problem: I get this “your device is up to date, check back  24hrs time” and am using 4.4.2 version. When I check after the 24hrs has elapsed I still get the same message that my device is up to date and that I should check back 24hrs time.. please help, what should I do?

Solution: Try following the troubleshooting steps listed below which is designed to resolve issues such as this. Move to the next step should the problem still occur.

  • Download Kies or Smart Switch on your computer. Connect your phone using a USB cord to the computer and use the downloaded software to update your phone.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the reset check for the update using the OTA method. If this fails then check for the update using Kies or Smart Switch.
  • Manually flash the update to your phone. Refer to the various Android forums online for instructions on how to do this.

S5 Constantly Getting Updates

Problem: I couldn’t get my software update to work for months. I had looked on your blog and finally decided to take the plunge and factory reset it. Now I turned it back on, it updated. Then a few minutes after it being on again, it said there was another update. It downloaded and updated. Now it’s telling me there is another. Is this normal after months of not updating?

Solution: Try to check if the updates have different versions. If they are different then it is normal since your phone has not been updated for quite some time. Just let the updates install normally and your phone should be fine.

S5 Quick Settings Crashes After Marshmallow Update

Problem: I have just downloaded and update the new operating system as my phone kept telling me to do. But since the update, my pull down task screen shows nothing but the brightness option. When I go to setting and notification panel and click on recommended apps (off) the setting crashes. I have no access to my wifi, volume, gps, screen rotation, etc. Buttons as I used to have.

Solution: Several other phone owners are also having this very same issue. Try restarting your phone then check if the quick settings reappear. If it doesn’t then you will need to backup your phone data and do a factory reset. This reset will delete any old software data that could still be in the phone and is causing this problem.

S5 Stuck In Verizon Logo After Software Update

Problem: Tried to update manually and not OTA. During that process it said it was successful but on bootup it gets stuck on Verizon logo and I have tried soft reset and hard reset many times.

Solution: For this particular issue try taking out the battery and the microSD card ( if you have one installed) then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then try to turn on your phone. If it still gets stuck in the boot logo then try to turn on your phone with the wall charger connected.

If the issue persists then the the software upgrade could have corrupted the phone software. If this is the case then you will need to manually flash the update phone software to your device. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 No Software Update Available

Problem: I have a s5 from when I had at&t, then swapped over to tmobile. After it was unlocked I haven’t been able to update my phone software. It says connecting to at&t network but since I’m now tmobile, obviously it won’t work. T Mobile store has no idea how to fix, at&t store won’t bother, Samsung says to get with t mobile. How do I update?

Solution: The reason why your device is not getting the update is because it is trying to get it from the AT&T servers which you don’t have access anymore since your phone is now using the T-Mobile service. Aside from inserting an AT&T SIM to your phone and using it to check for the update you can try connecting your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies or Smart Switch installed and use the software to check for updates.

One last option that you should consider is to manually flash the update to your phone. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Locked Out Of Pattern Lock After Marshmallow Update

Problem: I just updated my samsung galaxy S5 to the latest operating system, and it has locked me out with a new pattern lock. Prior to the update, I did not have a pattern lock, and did not use any type of lock. Now I can no longer access my phone because it has a pattern lock that I did not set. I updated the phone while it was next to me, so no one else had access to my phone the entire time. I also did not download any new applications or files within the last few days, so were no changes to the software. Please help!!! I have had this phone for almost 2 years now without a single issue. I have always updated it in the past 2 years.

Solution:  This is an issue that quite a number of S5 owners are facing after the Marshmallow update. You can still gain access to the phone by doing a factory reset from recovery mode. This will however delete all the data stored in the phone. If you haven’t backed up your phone data then you can simply reset the security feature of the phone using the Gmail account associated with the device.
