Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau has mentioned that the company was working on a smartwatch, but ultimately decided to scrap it. He simply said – “We had completed the design but we still decided to scrap it.” Strangely, Pete Lau didn’t discuss the nature of the wearable that the company was working on, nor did he list out reasons for scrapping it.
Given the kind of issues the company was facing with the production of the OnePlus One and the OnePlus 2, it was probably a wise idea to focus just on smartphones. But since the company’s production has streamlined to a great extent now, one can imagine that this smartwatch project could make a comeback sometime in the near future. However, for now, there is not going to be a OnePlus smartwatch.
Do you think the company made a wise call by ditching its smartwatch? What would you have liked to see?
