Early sketch reveals the scrapped OnePlus smartwatch

OnePlus Watch - Sketch

#OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has shared an early sketch of the OnePlus Watch, which has been confirmed to be scrapped. Even though we won’t see the wearable in the markets, it’s interesting to know what might have been. While the real reason for scrapping the wearable is not known, it seems like the company got pretty far along before deciding to axe it.

The sketch here reveals a unique mechanism which suggests that the watch body itself would be separated from the bands with a push mechanism. Most smartwatches today allow customers to remove the straps and not the body itself. This is something that hasn’t been tried before and could be a real game changer if other OEMs try to bring it to the market.

Also noticeable from this sketch is the fact that the OnePlus smartwatch would have had a circular display, which is currently the preferred choice among smartwatch OEMs. Overall, the sketch reveals that the OnePlus smartwatch had great potential, so it’s a real pity to learn that the company didn’t go through with it.
