It’s like Christmas for tech lovers today with #Google taking the wraps off some new services and updating some existing offerings (like Android N). On the occasion, Google also decided to share a few details about the latest refresh of Android Wear, aptly named Android Wear 2.0. It seems like this particular refresh will be more significant than what we’ve seen previously.
First and foremost, the new Android Wear will be capable of running independently of another smartphone. The wearable will rely on Wi-Fi networks when available and use mobile data when you’re out and about. Further, the OS will now have some new applications, making it more of a standalone device rather than a companion accessory. There will also be an all-new design, with developers getting a full rundown of the Wear 2.0 Material Design guidelines.
The developer preview will only be available for the LG Watch Urbane Second Edition LTE and the Huawei Watch for now, with more devices expected to be added soon. We expect new devices to launch sometime during the commercial arrival of Android Wear 2.0 (Fall 2016). Are you excited for the latest refresh of Android Wear? Sound off in the comments below.
