Alcatel to launch 17-inch Android tablet for $499 later this month

Alcatel Xess

The #AlcatelXess was originally announced in September last year during the IFA event. The tablet has now received an ETA thanks to an announcement made by the company. This large sized device will be available for purchase online starting April 22 at $499. The pricing will certainly make this an attractive offering given that there aren’t many large sized Android tablets that offer the same functionality. The only other device that comes to mind is the Samsung Galaxy View.

So what are you getting for $499? Well, the company has listed out the features on its site:

  • Immersive 17.3-inch Full-HD display for a more brilliant viewing experience
  • Dual 3-watt speakers featuring JBL Audio® for a high-fidelity home audio experience
  • All-day battery life with a 9600mAh battery and magnetic quick release charger so you never have to worry about tripping over cords
  • Portable design and adjustable stand for use anywhere in the kitchen or elsewhere in the home
  • Powered by a 1.5 GHz MediaTek Octa-Core processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage (supports up to 64GB of additional MicroSD expandable storage)

While a Full HD display at this size might not be ideal, it’s a lot better than having a 720p display in that form factor. Customers will be able to enjoy content from providers like Nickelodeon with the Alcatel Xess. The company will also offer a free IP camera along with the purchase of this tablet in the U.S. You will be able to purchase the tablet from Alcatel’s official website on and after April 22.
