S5 Screen Is Unresponsive
Problem: I got my phone yesterday and today for no reason the screen is unresponsive. The phone turns on and I can unlock it using the thumb scanner but it wont let me press anything after that.
Solution: It appears that the problem is caused by a software issue. To troubleshoot this issue try wiping the cache partition of your phone first from the recovery mode. This deletes the temporary data of the phone system and usually helps in this case.
Another factor that could cause this problem is a recent app that you installed in your phone. To check if this is the case you should start your device in Safe Mode. Check if the screen is now responsive. It the issue disappears then it’s possible that it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
One last troubleshooting step that you should consider if the issue persists is a factory reset. This reverts the phone back to its original condition when it was new. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing this.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you bring your phone back to where you bought it and have it replaced ( if the warranty applies) or you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S5 Black Screen After Phone Dropped
Problem: I dropped my phone last night and now the screen is not responding at all it’s just all black it turns on tho because my alarm was going off this morning?!?! Thank you jane.
Solution: Here’s how to check if the problem i hardware or software related. Try to start your phone in recovery mode. This is a separate environment from the main operating system that allows you to run commands on the phone. If the screen is not black in this mode then the problem could be caused by the main phone software. If this is the case then I would suggest that you do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy first.
In case the screen is still black in the recovery mode then the problem could already be caused by a damaged display. I would suggest that you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. It’s possible that you will need to have the screen replaced.
S5 Bottom Half Of Screen Flickers
Problem: The bottom half of my screen flickers but when i lock my phone for 30 min or so it’ll go away but every now and then it will come back.
Solution: Try to see if this issue is caused by a low screen brightness level by increasing the brightness of your phone. If the issue occurs even in maximum brightness then perform the following troubleshooting steps listed below.
- Wipe the cache partition of your phone. Sometimes, a form of corrupt temporary data can cause this issue. Getting rid of this data is one way of fixing the problem.
- Start your phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Do a factory reset. This will revert your phone software back to its original condition. Take note that you need to backup your phone data before doing this.
If the issue still occurs at this point then you should have your phone checked at an authorized service center as this could already by a hardware related problem.
S5 Screen Is Black
Problem: I smashed my screen a couple of weeks ago and everything was fine until today I was using it and then parts of the screen just went black and I could just see the top and then after I used it the whole screen went black I tried taking the battery and sim out but none of it works and I can still hear the phone being on as I hear texts come through and when I press buttons.
Solution: It appears that the display has now become physically damaged. As far as troubleshooting goes, what you can do right now is to check the condition of the phone when it starts in recovery mode. If by a slim chance the screen works normally in recovery mode then the problem could be caused by the phone software. I suggest you do a factory reset in this mode. Take note though that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before doing this.
If the screen is still black in recovery mode or if you are unable to access the recovery mode then chances are this issue is already caused by a damaged display. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. It’s very likely that you will have to replace the whole display assembly of your phone.
S5 Soaked In Ocean For 45 Minutes Does Not Turn On
Problem: My Samsung s5 was soaked on the ocean for almost 45 minutes, the battery was drained. After 4 hours I think I tried to charge my phone and opened it, and yes it did opened but the screen was not functioning, so I decided to turn if off, when I tried to open it again, it stopped and just kept on vibrating when I’m trying to reboot it.. Visit a technician and he found out that the LCD was full of rust, I can’t open my phone now but it’s still vibrating..Please help
Solution: The presence of rust inside the phone is an indication that water has entered the device. This means that the phone could be water damaged which is the reason why it won’t turn on. If this is the case I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. Each component will have to be tested in this case and the one that is not working will have to be replaced.
S5 Screen Black After charging Port Replacement
Problem: I changed the charging port on my phone but when I turned my phone on right after the screen was black. Can you please help me with this? Thank you
Solution: Try to check if the cable wire that connects the phone display to the board is connected properly. You should also verify that the charging port is properly attached to the phone. If you are unable to find any problem then try to return the original charging port and see if the screen works with it.
S5 Flickers At Dimmest Setting
Problem: I bought a refurbished s5 (still not cheap) and when it is on the dimmest setting, the screen flickers. I am worried this is a sign the screen is going out and I can still exchange it for a few more weeks. So if you think this flickering is a problem I will exchange it. It does not flicker on anything but the dimmest setting.
Solution: Because this phone uses a Super AMOLED display there is a high possibility that it will flicker in low brightness settings. This happens because as you reduce the brightness of the device each pixel of the screen will get a reduced current. The reduction of the current will cause the display to flicker.
You can however try to check if this issue is caused by a problem with the phone software by doing a factory reset ( make sure to backup your phone data first). If after the reset the issue still occurs and it bothers you then you can have the phone replaced. Make sure to check if the flickering issue occurs with the new device.
