Sorry, I wanted to give you all the information, but my phone is pretty much a paperweight.
It will not charge, it won’t charge via ANY charger, or even with my wireless charger. I cannot turn it on, as it is completely dead not realizing that it would not charge (I always kill the battery before charging).
When it first happened my phone was going crazy saying it was charging when I had no charger near it and started tweaking out and turned off. Then it lost all service when it came back on. I was no longer connected to my service provider. They did a reset through them and my service came back. But my phone still won’t charge. HAAALLPP! — Stephanie
Solution: Hi Stephanie. We’re here to provide solutions mostly for software-related issues. That means we can only help if the phone still boots normally. This is obviously not what is happening on your device right now. If you can’t get it to power back on, there’s little to nothing that we can do to help. The problem is most probably due to hardware malfunction like a damaged battery, a bad charging port, a broken internal component, to mention a few. A full diagnostics must be conducted to be able to identify the problem and it can only be done by a thorough physical checkup. We can’t obviously do that for you so you need to bring the phone either to Samsung or to a reputable third party shop.
It won’t hurt though if you try to see if your phone will boot to Recovery mode so you can do a complete cache or data wipe. Please follow the steps below:
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
- Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
- When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
- Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
Once you are in recovery mode, you can use the Volume rocker to highlight the option you want to go to. In this exercise, you want to wipe the cache partition, then do a factory reset afterwards. After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
When I turn off my Wi-Fi and try to connect to mobile data, it says it is connected. I even got 4G+ and full reach. I can only send messages on WhatsApp but my Facebook and SnapChat won’t load or send anything. It’s like i don’t get enough data while it says 4G+ and all bars are full..
I’ve tried restarting, turning on and off mobile data, everything but nothing helps. I also contacted my provider but they couldn’t help me with this issue either. i wonder if it is hardware related or software related. i just know it’s shit.
I’ve tried going on someone else his hotspot for a bit, and after i disconnected i had like 20 minutes of working cellular data and suddenly it disappeared again. i just know that’s it’s really annoying and i want to fix it. — Chantal
Solution: Hi Chantal. Apps can sometimes fail for no reason, at least from an average user’s perspective. This can be due to a number of reasons so there’s no accurate way to resolve it. You need to isolate the true cause first. If this problem only happens on Facebook and SnapChat apps, be sure to do the following:
Update the apps. Updates from developers may contain software patches for identified problems so it’s always good to ensure that apps are constantly updated. If you haven’t update Facebook and SnapChat for some time, now is the right time to do it.
Force stop the app. Android is supposed to manage apps automatically and force stopping one is generally not needed. However, not all apps run normally and in order to completely shut one down, force stop is needed. Doing this procedure works well with similar potential solutions like wiping an app’s cache and data. You can do them by doing the following steps:
- Go to Settings.
- Proceed to Applications.
- Select Manage Applications.
- Tap the All tab.
- Choose the name of the app that has been going rogue.
- From there, you will see the Force Stop, Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons.
Boot the phone in safe mode. If both Facebook and SnapChat come as pre-installed apps, restarting your phone in safe mode can be an effective way to tell you if a third party app is causing this trouble. Safe Mode will come in handy as it will temporarily disable all third-party apps leaving pre-installed ones and core services running. Once the phone has booted in safe mode, its performance will dramatically improve, app crashes will be gone and you can do whatever troubleshooting procedures you need to do to regain your phone’s top-notch performance. Here’s how you do the safe mode reboot:
- Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 20 to 30 seconds.
- Once you see the Samsung logo, release the Power key immediately but continue pressing the Volume Down key.
- Your phone should continue booting up and you will be prompted to unlock your phone as usual.
- You will know if the phone successfully booted in safe mode if the text “Safe mode” is displayed at the lower-left corner of the screen.
Restore the phone’s defaults via factory reset. If nothing appears to change, make sure that you do a factory reset.
For serious firmware-related issues, the factory reset is often the ultimate fix. It’s because it will bring the phone back to its factory defaults deleting all files, data, settings, apps, personal information, accounts, etc. In short, if there are things you don’t want to lose during the process, you must back them up prior to performing the Factory reset.
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Find and tap the Settings icon.
- Under the ‘Personal’ section, find and tap Backup and reset.
- Tap Factory data reset.
- Touch Reset device to proceed with the reset.
- Depending on the security lock you used, enter the PIN or password.
- Tap Continue.
- Touch Delete all to confirm your action.
- All data deleted after the reset cannot be retrieved.
I charged my phone (using the original fast charger) when it has 5% battery left (I was playing a game, I didn’t notice the battery is nearly empty). I check it again after a few minutes and it is charging with 10% battery. When I checked it again, the phone is turned off and it has no charge at all. I tried connecting it to a PC, the charging icon inside the battery appears which means the battery is totally drained, then after awhile, it says 0% and then proceeds to 1% in a very very slow pace. Then it turns 0% again and back to the charging icon again. I tried using the wireless charger and same thing happened. I disconnect it and use the wireless charger again and the charging icon just appear, not charging at all. — Mayumi
Solution: Hi Mayumi. Looks like you have a similar problem to Stephanie’s (see Problem #1). Make sure to check if you can boot your phone to Recovery mode first. If the phone remains unresponsive, you can assume that there’s a hardware problem involved. If your phone is still covered by a repair or replacement warranty, make sure to use them in order to resolve the issue.
My battery drained super quick today. I charged it fully overnight and only checked it once between 10 am and 3 pm as I was in a course. When leaving the course the battery low message showed and I thought this was strange. Twenty minutes later the battery had died completely. When I got home, I plugged it in and tried to make a few calls but couldn’t connect. I reset the mobile network and it was able to connect the call. I left the phone on charge and went about my business. When I went back to the phone about an hour later I couldn’t turn it on. I removed the charger and tried again to turn it on but nothing. The other strange thing is that the red charging light has stayed on even though it isn’t on charge and hasn’t been for about 4 hours now.
I have tried holding home and power buttons together but no response. My laptop also won’t acknowledge it when I plug it in. — Lucy
Solution: Hi Lucy. Your case may be similar to Problem #1 and #3…or not. As mentioned, the first step in resolving a power issue on a Galaxy S6 is to narrow down the possible causes. The reason why your phone won’t boot up normally can be an errant app, an operating system glitch, or bad hardware.
For older generation Galaxy phones, pulling the battery out and testing a different one should be one of the first concrete things a user can do. This is obviously not possible on your device so want to do a soft reset instead. You can do that by pressing and holding the Volume Down and Power buttons for at least 30 seconds. Doing so will force the phone to reset its system as if the battery has been pulled out, put back in, and device restarted.
If the phone won’t boot after a soft reset, you can also try to restart it in safe mode (steps provided above). If you’ve installed incompatible app prior to noticing the problem, there’s a chance that it’s the reason why your phone malfunctions.
If the phone continues to fail, doing a factory reset won’t hurt.
Finally, if all else fails, there’s high probability that hardware failure is to blame. As we have suggested to Stephanie and Mayumi, you’re only way out of this mess may be repair or replacement.
I have a big problem with my Samsung Galaxy S6 after rooting with king root. My phone rebooted and gave me this error in red saying “Kernel is not seadroid enforcing” and “custom binary blocked by FRP lock”, and I have already used Odin in trying to flash the operating system onto my phone. Solution: Hi Joshua. First of all, we don’t provide assistance via email as we would like our advice to be available for Android community.
Secondly, the error “custom binary blocked by FRP lock” and its accompanying message is an indicator that the device locked itself up so that it’s software can not be modified. It’s apparently a security feature created by Samsung to discourage flashing a non-official operating system to their device. Even a typical Odin flashing of ROM back to stock won’t work once a device has locked itself up. In most cases, even booting to Recovery mode won’t work preventing users from wiping the cache partition or doing a factory reset.
What you can do right now is to install stock ROM to your phone via Smart Switch. Kindly visit Samsung website to download and install the software first to your PC. If you can’t re-install a new ROM to your phone via Smart Switch, call Samsung to see if they can replace the phone for you.
I have a Samsung S6 designed for use on the Verizon network. I’ve been using it on Cricket Wireless for a couple years. I let it do an upgrade to my Visual Voicemail app, and that app update wouldn’t install correctly.
When I called the Cricket Helpdesk, they patched in the Verizon Helpdesk and told me that I needed to grab a SIM card from a Verizon user, let it get past the error I was running into with visual voicemail, then put my SIM card back in and the visual voicemail issue would be resolved. He was right, it did resolve the VV issue.
But, while I had the Verizon SIM in my phone it also downloaded update G920VVRU1AOE2. When I had my cricket SIM in, I let the phone do that upgrade. Since that time, mobile data isn’t working. I can get phone calls and standard text messages. I can’t do anything that requires mobile data, like MMS or email or whatever.
Wi-Fi still works.

Solution: Hi Antonio. Your phone’s APN settings may have changed after the update so make sure that you check it first. To do that, please follow these steps:
- Pull down the notification bar and go to Settings.
- Tap Mobile data.
- Tap Access Point Names.
- Tap and delete any APN setting that does not belong to Cricket or the old Cricket APN.
- Tap on New APN to create a new APN for Cricket.
Use the details below in creating a new APN:
Proxy: Not Required
Port: Not Required
Username: Not Required
Password: Not Required
Server: Not Required
MMS proxy: proxy.Cricketwireless.net
MMS port: 80
Authentication type: Not Required
If mobile data still won’t work, call your wireless carrier again and ask them to give you the correct APN settings for your phone.
