Hello Droid Guy! Before starting i just wanted to say that you help me a lot and i appreciate all the stuff you’re doing for us Android users, thank you so much! And right now I’m hoping that you could help me with my problem.
My Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, whenever I’m using it at one point in the day, would just start glitching and then it would shutdown and restart. It’s been going on for a week now. I’m not that alarmed at first when it started doing this. I thought maybe my phone was tired from me using it too much since after i use my musical.ly app. I’ve been using it too much but yesterday i didn’t use the app at all and only watched YouTube but then it did it twice!
I’ve had my phone for almost 7 months and i kept it neat and safe so i don’t understand why is it doing this. Please help me and thank you a lot! — Rose
Solution: Hi Rose. Apparent glitches and random reboot can be caused by either a software issue or a faulty hardware. A malfunctioning battery, for example, may not be able to hold a charge or lose significant amount of power at a short time causing the phone to simply turn off. On the other hand, a poorly coded app may create conflict with the operating system that may result to frequent crashes or reboot as well. Since there is no way to know for sure which is which, it’s your job to narrow it down.
A good first step that you can try is to delete the cache partition. For minor firmware-related issues brought by apps and firmware updates, wiping the cache partition often does the trick. It’s because this procedure will literally delete all cached files in the cache partition, which will force the system to create new ones during the next boot up.
This procedure is also very helpful in fixing issues like random reboots, boot loop, stuck during boot up and random freezes after updates. Here’s how you wipe the cache partition on your S6 Edge:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
- When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
- When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
- Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
- Press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
If deleting the cache partition won’t help, restart the phone in safe mode for 24 hours and observe it. If the issues fail to occur while the phone is in safe mode, that’s a confirmation that our hunch is correct. You must uninstall apps until the issues are eliminated. If you haven’t tried to boot in safe mode, here are the steps:
- Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 20 to 30 seconds.
- Once you see the Samsung logo, release the Power key immediately but continue pressing the Volume Down key.
- Your phone should continue booting up and you will be prompted to unlock your phone as usual.
- You will know if the phone successfully booted in safe mode if the text “Safe mode” is displayed at the lower-left corner of the screen.
If nothing will change after wiping the cache partition or when the phone is in safe mode, there may be a hardware problem behind the trouble. It’s up to you if you want to give factory reset (steps provided below) a try, but we highly recommend that you consider having the phone checked for hardware errors.
Recently AT&T released an update, not Marshmallow, that crashed half way through on me. Almost immediately I begin to have connectivity issues with my data. I contacted AT&T and after several calls they seem to think it had something to do with one of their towers going on the fritz. They set me up in a different tower and that seems to have fixed the problem, sort of. The download speeds now are horrible. The other issue is that none of this has fixed the update. My phone has a message that I can continue the update but it’s greyed out. Any ideas?

Solution: Hi Rico. Updates don’t always go as planned. After several Android OS iterations over the years, we know this as a fact across all devices. There are so many things that can go wrong when a new OS is installed that there’s just no way of knowing for sure what the specific cause is. Fortunately, any software issue is almost always fixed by doing two proven solutions.
We suggest that you wipe your phone’s cache partition and do a factory reset. After that, attempt to download the update again. For the download speed issue, you have to continue working with AT&T as the cause may be network-related.
For easy reference, here are the steps on how to factory reset your Galaxy S6:
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
- Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
- When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
- Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
- Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
- Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
- After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
IMPORTANT: Factory reset will delete everything on your phone’s internal storage device. Be sure to backup your personal data (photos, videos, contacts, etc) before proceeding.
Hi. I got my S6 last year around the release date. Everything’s been OK until around 2 months ago. I’ve noticed more and more that my battery drains faster than it used to. I have done some basic things like turn down screen brightness, got rid of some unused apps, cleaned cache but still it persists, so I was wondering what else I could do to help slow my battery drain down a bit, I’ve heard that Facebook and Facebook Messenger are heavy on the battery but I use these apps a lot so I need them on my phone, and whats the point of having your phone if you can’t use the apps you need or want.
I’m going on a trip via train on Friday which will take around 4 hours so trying to sort my phone out so it won’t run out of power so fast as using your phone on long journeys helps kill the time.
Another issue which may or may not be related is that when I was using my fast charger it was fine as could charge rapidly, but my charger cable started messing around and so replaced it several times. It got so bad I have given up on it and now use my wireless charging plate instead.

Solution: Hi Colin. Fast battery drain is a persistent issue that plagues smartphones today. It is as pervasive in Android as it is in other non-Android platforms. The issue can have different causes for different users so the solution varies by case. One user may have the problem due to a bad app, while another to battery error. It is therefore imperative for the user to know first what the possible causes of battery drain issue, or at least narrow them down so an effective counter can be implemented.
Some of the common causes for battery drain issue include the following:
- bad applications
- high number of unnecessary services or apps running in the background
- high number of apps connecting to remote servers most of the time (like social networking apps, email apps, shopping apps, online games, etc.)
- Screen brightness
- Outdated/corrupted system cache
- Firmware glitch
- Hardware problems (like faulty battery and/or malfunctioning components)
If any of these potential causes apply in your case, be sure to do something about it. If you need a particular apps like Facebook and Facebook Messenger, try to see if other similar apps can be removed from your phone, or at least their sync function disabled to minimize battery drain. Try to go under the Battery section of your phone’s settings and see what apps are on top of the list. A good tip on what app to disable or uninstall: if you haven’t use it for at least two weeks, you don’t actually need it. Get rid of as many apps as possible.
Unnecessary services like NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, among others can also contribute to fast battery drain issue so make sure you turn them off.
Screen brightness is obviously the biggest reason in many cases so try to lower it down to the lowest comfortable level.
There is no clean fix for this issue and no amount of troubleshooting can help you if you but wiping the cache partition and doing a factory reset also alleviates the issue sometimes.
For the charging cable issue, the only thing that you can do about it is to replace it. Since you’ve already done it several times, that’s an indicator that there may be a problem with your phone (probably a bad charging port). If the phone is still under warranty, consider having it checked by Samsung so it can be repaired or replaced.
My phone dropped out of my back pocket into the toilet! I took the phone out immediately, had a quick look on my laptop in order to find out what to do and then placed the phone in a ziplock bag with rice for several days. At first the phone turned on and everything seemed normal but it then kept rebooting itself. I’ve followed some of your advice on other posts – ‘wipe cache partition’, rebooting the system, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ but it just gets stuck on the opening screen (black background with white ‘Samsung Galaxy S6 powered by android’).
The phone won’t do anything unless it has a charger plugged in but, oddly, it will only work with my Kindle charger and NOT the phone charger!!! Is there anything that I can do to try and fix my phone?
I have had the phone for less than two months and it’s on a 24 month contract. I will be paying for something that I can’t use for the next two years if I can’t get it working again which frustrates me no end as you can imagine!

Solution: Hi Shelly. We know how frustrating this can be but since you’ve already tried all the possible software solutions, you can assume now that there’s a hardware malfunctioning that needs fixing. There’s no way for us to know what the exact hardware problem is so your best bet is to invest in a possible repair scenario. If the phone can still be replaced though, we highly recommend that you go that replacement route. Repairing a water-damaged electronic gadget is tricky and does not guarantee a 100% fix, especially if damage is extensive. Getting a replacement would be your best choice in this matter.
I recently switched from an iPhone 5S to Galaxy S6, and also switched from Sprint to Verizon. I turned off iMessaging when I got my new phone because I knew this was an issue. I had no problems sending or receiving individual text messages to iPhone or non-iPhone users. But I have had issues with sending/receiving texts in group messaging with iPhone users and non-iPhones. I was told by Verizon that all people who have an iPhone I wish to still group message with needs to delete and re-add me as a contact. I shared this information with these people and still am having issues. I can send messages and on my end it looks like it all goes through. Sometimes recipients receive the messages and sometimes not. Sometimes I can see their responses and sometimes not. Verizon doesn’t know what to do. Is there a fix? Please help! I am beyond frustrated with this. — Kristen
Solution: Hi Kristen. Group messaging between Android and iOS users has always been problematic due to a number of reasons. The thing we are sure though is that this is not a phone issue. The cause may be on your friend’s end or network. It’s also not a secret that Apple’s iMessage does not work along well with non-iOS systems.
Also, you have to keep in mind that sending and receiving or SMS, MMS, and group messages are not guaranteed by carriers. Although majority of us have relied on the current SMS technology over the years, carriers may or may not send or receive all messages. The reason for that is an entirely different issue but that’s the reality.
If you want to fix this issue, you have to go back to Verizon for more assistance, or talk to your friends so they can also do the same with their own carrier.
I am at the end of the rope here with this phone. The issue has become unbearable and is making the phone unusable. It all started when the phone randomly became slowed down. The symptoms as goes: Home button does not work sometime when the lag is bad. If I want to get back to the home page, sometimes I have to double click home button and x out of the multi window. Sometimes the sleep button on the side does not work. Whenever I scroll or swipe pages, there would be a delay before it does anything. It is a good .5 sec to 1 sec delay. Whenever I type, it would take a couple of seconds to register. Sometimes, it would even type the symbol instead of the letter as if I pressed the button for too long. Same issue for when I click an app, it would bring up the page edit as if I held onto the app icon for too long. All of this happens after I reset the device. I would wipe factory data and do a factory reset. I have tried using Clean Master and keep closing apps, disabling them in settings, and stopping them under running apps, but it still lags. I have also tried wiping cache partition. It is making the phone unusable, i tried also to flash fresh firmware in Odin but the problem still persist, help me please. — Jeremiah
Solution: Hi Jeremiah. We would like to think that a third party app/s may be to blame so you can try to boot your phone in safe mode and observe it for a full day. Having several apps running actively and in the background simultaneously can deplete resources and result to lag as well. If booting in safe mode won’t change anything, do another round of factory reset and observe the phone again for 24 hours. If slow performance or lag remains, have the phone replaced.
Slow performance issues can sometimes also be caused by bad hardware. Because you seemed to have done all the software troubleshooting drills that we usually recommend, it’s time that you try to see if the reason for the trouble is hardware in nature. If the device is still covered by a repair or replacement warranty, we suggest that you go for any of the two.
