Sony confirms that it’s killing the Xperia Z lineup

Xperia Z 5

Yesterday, Sony’s German unit hinted that the #XperiaZ series might be absorbed by the newly formed #XperiaX lineup. #Sony has now officially confirmed this, suggesting that the #XperiaZ5 and the Z5 Premium were the last of the Xperia Z devices to hit the markets. The company believes that it can recreate a new brand image under the Xperia X banner, although only time will tell if the company will be successful in doing that.

Here’s what Sony had to say on the matter –

“The Xperia Z line has reached its culmination – Xperia X series represents a new chapter and evolution of our product strategy. Whilst the Xperia Z series was all about bringing the best of Sony’s advanced technologies to smartphones, Xperia X series is based on bringing smart, adaptive Sony user experiences across camera, battery performance and hardware / software design.”

So there you have it folks, there won’t be an Xperia Z6 handset after all. But there’s no need to be disappointed, as the Xperia X Performance has shown decent promise, with the device slated for a North American release soon as well.
