Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus apps crash due to insufficient storage, other app problems

If you own a #Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus (#GalaxyS6EdgePlus) with only 32GB storage capacity, it is more likely that you’ll encounter random app crashes due to insufficient storage space. The thing is, there’s permanent fix for this as the device doesn’t have a microSD card slot unlike the previous #Galaxy models. But it doesn’t mean you can’t do something about it either.

Running out of storage space is more of an inconvenience than a problem and there are always things you can do to work around it. That’s what I’m going to discuss in the first section of this post, so continue reading to know how to tackle it especially if you encountered this issue personally.

Apps keeps crashing due to insufficient storage on Galaxy S6 Edge+

Everything you install on your phone takes up space and it doesn’t stop there. The more you use an app, the more the data it accumulates and therefore, it takes up more storage space day after day.

If you own the 32GB variant S6 Edge Plus, then you only have around 23GB usable storage and that’s not much for pictures, videos, full-length movies, game app data, etc. depending on what kind of user you are.


Insufficient storage issue is often characterized by these symptoms:

  • A system warning telling you there’s not enough storage left
  • Apps randomly crashing or becoming unresponsive with error messages

Problem 1: “Hi guys. I found your site while trying to find a solution to the problem I currently have. A few days ago, I was out taking pictures here and there and then the camera just froze and became unresponsive for several seconds. I tried to restart the phone and when it became active, there was a message telling me there’s not much space left in my phone. After a short while error messages popped up one after the other that I couldn’t use the phone properly. I tried to reboot it again but the same thing happened. I understand I need to delete some files but how could I do that if I couldn’t even use the phone for a few seconds? Can you help me please?

Solution: Well, it’s really a pain having to encounter this problem but don’t worry, you can easily fix it. Just by reading the description, I know you already know what to do but you couldn’t because of the system warning and error messages. So, the best thing you need to do is boot your phone in safe mode so all third-party apps will be temporarily disabled. This way, you can use the phone without those error messages:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 20 to 30 seconds.
  2. Once you see the Samsung logo, release the Power key immediately but continue pressing the Volume Down key.
  3. Your phone should continue booting up and you will be prompted to unlock your phone as usual.
  4. You will know if the phone successfully booted in safe mode if the text “Safe mode” is displayed at the lower-left corner of the screen.

Now that the device is in safe mode, do what you need to do to free up some space.

Problem 2: “Today, my Galaxy S6 Edge Plus started showing “Unfortunately, Messages has stopped” error after I receive a picture message and then the warning about storage space running out popped out.  I couldn’t update apps let alone install one. Honestly, I’m not a tech savvy person so even if I have an idea what needs to be done, I don’t know where to start. I’m afraid I could mess my phone up. Please tell me what I need to do to fix this. Thanks a lot!

Solution: Don’t panic! Connect your phone to your computer and copy your pictures, videos, files, music tracks, etc. and delete them from your phone. Just by doing this alone, you’ve already freed up a lot of space in your phone’s internal storage. You may also uninstall apps you don’t use anymore.

But you know, the ultimate fix for app crashes due to insufficient storage space is the master reset. Of course, you need to backup every file or data you don’t want to lose as they will be deleted during the process. After the reset, only download and install apps that are important.

How to do the master reset on S6 Edge+

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
  3. When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
  4. Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
  6. Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
  7. After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.

Miscellaneous files on Storage use 3.54GB

Problem: On my miscellaneous files on the storage keep showing that 3.54 gig used and I deleted everything but that number never changes it only get larger over time and I only had for less a month and I’m worry at this rate I’m going to ran out of memory. Any ideas?

Answer: More of the files in that directory are caches and the amount of space used depends on what app you use. For instance, if you use Google Play Music to stream music, temporary files will be stored in that directory. The same thing happens if you stream videos, sync photos, etc. You can, of course, deleted these files but they’d come back by the time you use those apps again.

Only 24GB storage space left on a brand new S6 Edge+

Question: I purchased Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ with 32GB storage capacity. Without installing any apps or taking pictures, I go to Storage and found out only 24GB is available. Why is it so? Why can’t Samsung just stick to whatever its ads are saying?

Answer: Actually, Samsung is pretty precise when it comes to storage capacities of its devices. When the ad said the phone has 32GB storage capacity, it really has 32GB storage space. But my question to you is where do you think the system files are saved? How about the pre-installed apps, where did Samsung placed their data?

Remember that your S6 Edge+ comes with the recent version of Android, which takes up a lot of space, a lot of pre-installed apps and a bundle of “cool” features.

There’s nothing we can do about how much storage space is left on your phone out of the box. If you need plenty of storage space, you should have bought the 64GB variant.

It’s during this time you’ll miss the good old microSD card slot.

How to conserve storage space on Galaxy S6 Edge Plus?
