Given that #Mozilla OS has barely been successful in the mobile industry, the company has decided to take a big step going forward. Mozilla has announced that it will stop supporting phones with Mozilla OS starting May 2016, which suggests that there are only a couple of months before users with Mozilla OS phones are stuck with the software version they have.
“Firefox OS proved the flexibility of the Web, scaling from low-end smartphones all the way up to HD TVs,” said Ari Jaaksi, Mozilla’s SVP of Connected Devices. “However, we weren’t able to offer the best user experience possible and so we will stop offering Firefox OS smartphones through carrier channels,” he added.
Mozilla will however continue to accept Mozilla OS apps through 2017, so all hope is not lost for fans of the platform. It is further being suggested that there might be a couple of new devices coming with the company’s OS on board. We’ve already seen Panasonic Smart TVs with Mozilla OS on board, so it shouldn’t be a surprise to find more devices over the coming months.
