I did something stupid and put my phone in my back pocket and it dropped into the toilet! It was in a full case and only in the water halfway for literally 2 seconds. It went completely blank. I dried it off and immediately placed it somewhere really warm. I have left it for four days. It is charged now but although it’s switched on, and I can hear messages and emails coming through, and I can see the blue light flashing, and the lights left and right of the home button, the screen is black. I don’t have insurance with my service provider, but the insurance I have will only replace my handset with a reconditioned handset! Is there anything I can do to get this fixed? — Louise
Solution: Hi Louise. Water damage can lead to anything depending on what components are affected. A smartphone’s internal components can easily fail if they come in contact with water while power is on. Needless to say, it’s imperative that one must remove the battery or turn the power off right away if a phone gets wet. Unfortunately, removing the battery pack on the S6 is out of the question for an average user. Unlike its predecessor, the Galaxy S5, your phone’s battery is obviously non-removable right away so the damage may have spread to more components right now after the initial water contact with a few ones. A full diagnostic is necessary to know what components are failing right now so there’s really little to nothing that we can do to help you in that regard. Even if you can identify the defective hardware, there’s still no guarantee that replacing them will do any good in the long run. We suggest that you simply ask for a replacement phone.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Sprint variant 64GB. I bought it a couple of months ago. The phone has been working fine until last night when the speaker suddenly stopped working. Although I could hear a silent air type of sound coming out of the speaker. It was very very difficult to hear but was there. I read about it online and restarted my phone. But as soon as the phone showed the S6 Edge logo, the screen turned black with its blue light turned on constantly. I am able to restart it but the same happens every time I do it. The phone sometimes vibrates when the blue light is on. I can’t get into safe mode because of it. My phone never has been rooted before.
I can get it into recovery mode but after a couple of seconds (when the recovery mode is loading up) the Android falls down with its eyes crossed and a yellow exclamation mark above it and then it enters into recovery mode. I’ve tried wiping the cache and device but that didn’t work either. I’ve downloaded the supported stock firmware from sammobile.com as well and installed it on the phone, thinking that it would be a software glitch but that didn’t work out either. I’ve tried literally everything I can. Every combination of buttons, every system shortcut I was able to find on the internet, with and without the SIM card inserted but nothing works. My phone shows charging and the logo but that’s all it does. I really need your help. — Haseeb
Solution: Hi Haseeb. That the speaker is not working properly might be one the indications of a hardware problem. We rarely see S6 speaker problems caused by software so we recommend that you let Samsung take a look at it. Hi. I read your article about the charging issues on the Galaxy S6 Edge. Well I have a quite different problem in hands. My Galaxy S6 doesn’t charge but it will charge from the wireless port thing. I know it not the USB Cable or the charger itself because I just bought a new one. My best bet for this reason is that I drop the phone but that couldn’t be the problem because I haven’t dropped it in a long time and it has protective case. It was working perfectly fine yesterday and when I woke up I plug the charger in and i it working fine and all and then the phone restated by itself.
At first I didn’t panic it was probably a glitch in the system I told myself. I turned the phone on everything was working fine and all and like 15 minutes of me just watching YouTube it happened again and that’s when I started to panic. After that, none of my chargers wouldn’t work not even my new one I bought last week.
The only way I can charge my phone is by the wireless port thing. My phone works perfectly fine. It wasn’t restarted itself since then. But it won’t charge via USB. I wanted to let y’all know this and see if y’all could help me out before I call AT&T and they make me pay for repairs or even I knew phone lol. But anyway please help and thanks — Erik
Solution: Hi Erik. The first thing that you can try is to connect your S6 to a computer to see if the microUSB port is defective or not. Make sure to check if it talks properly to a computer by allowing you to browse your files or move files from and to it. If you can do that, that means that there’s either a problem with the connector on the microUSB port that allows electricity to go to the battery, or that a software glitch is presently preventing proper charging. To fix the possible software issue, you can do two things — wipe the cache partition and perform a factory reset.

How to wipe the cache of a Galaxy S6 Edge
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
- When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
- When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
- Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
- Press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
How to factory reset a Galaxy S6 Edge
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
- Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
- When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
- Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
- Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
- Press the Volume Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
- After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S6 and I have had it for about a month. I all of a sudden get this ghost icon that will not go away, it seems to be connected to the charge of the phone. if I touch it and it goes to the right and out of sight it locks the phone up. so I noticed that the charge was down to 70% so I charged the phone back up and about 3 minutes later I have my phone working again. I have experimented with this and it does this every time. if I leave the icon alone, my phone does just fine.
So don’t know where this has come from if I did something or I got if off my internet connection? can you help me out here?

Solution: Hi Bob. We have no idea what that icon is either but what you can try to do is to do a factory reset (steps provided above). After that, observe the phone to see if that icon returns. It is important that you don’t install anything during the observation period. If the said icon doesn’t return, it was probably installed by one of your third party apps.
If the issue returns after you have installed all your old apps, that’s a strong indication that one of your apps is responsible for installing that icon. Try to uninstall apps until you have eliminated the source of the problem.
The landscape display of some video and pictures no longer works. My camera defaults to landscape or a horizontal view when I take pictures. While in Facebook if I turn my phone to see videos in the landscape mode it won’t work. Videos continue to be played in up and down vie. YouTube videos will play in landscape mode. Various other videos will walk not work in landscape position. I do have the auto feature clicked to rotate my phone. I’ve hard started my phone and checked camera options but nothing seems to help. Facebook videos, if I click on them, more often than not will freeze my phone. As well as not being able to rotate and watch them.

Solution: Hi Susan. One of the third party apps may be at play here. Try booting your S6 in safe mode and observe how the stock video player plays any video. If the issue fails to occur in safe mode, that’s a clue that you have to start uninstalling apps until the problem is gone. To boot in safe mode, simply follow these steps:
- Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 20 to 30 seconds.
- Once you see the Samsung logo, release the Power key immediately but continue pressing the Volume Down key.
- Your phone should continue booting up and you will be prompted to unlock your phone as usual.
- You will know if the phone successfully booted in safe mode if the text “Safe mode” is displayed at the lower-left corner of the screen.
If you can’t restore the normal function of the camera and video players to normal this way, try to factory reset your S6 to see the difference.
My new phone recently got the update for Marshmallow. Since upgrading to Marshmallow error popups have been showing up quite often (Google Services error, Gmail, Facebook, Messenger etc). Soon after the upgrade the errors occurred every few seconds. I ended up reinstalling Facebook, Messenger & they worked.
Recently installed a UFC game from Play Store. Since the install, all I’ve had is constant popup of errors 1 after the other & many are the same. So I’m guessing some processes are trying to start, not working causing the errors, then trying to start again.
Anyway, it came to a point where I couldn’t do anything on phone as I was constantly closing popups. Finally I decided to reboot. Now is the big problem. My phone gets stuck on logo screen & will not load. I’ve tried recovery mode, clear cache, factory reset etc & nothing has worked. Whatever I’ve tried, my phone freezes on logo screen & phone is useless. Hopefully there is a fix out there. — Lou
Solution: Hi Lou. How did you get the Marshmallow update? Was it pushed by your carrier via over-the-air update? If yes, wiping the cache partition and doing a factory reset should help you fix the popups.
However, if you manually flashed Android Marshmallow, this current version may still be buggy for your device. Your best choice is to re-flash the last firmware on your phone.
