Problem #1: Galaxy S6 not charging and won’t power on

I plugged my phone in at 16% last night to a working charger and when I pulled it off an hour later it was at 13% and noticed it’s not charging on any charger. All chargers/cords are good, the phone recognizes it’s been plugged in when its off but it suddenly wont charge. No water damage, hasn’t been dropped, haven’t forced a plug into it, charger clicks in normal and not loose… Charges on the wireless charging pad. Only thing I can think of is a software/firmware issue or something wrong with the port. However when I tried to reboot it the Android screen says installing update for a few seconds then goes to the reboot screen. I haven’t factory reset it yet. Checked for updates, it’s up to date. Cleared cache partition, did system reboot…Any advice on the tech end? — Erin

Solution: Hi Erin. You’ve done the rest of software solutions without any discernable positive effect so it’s logical to proceed to factory reset. For easy reference, here are the steps how to do it:

  • Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
  • When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
  • Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
  • Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
  • Press the Volume Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
  • After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.

Problem #2: Galaxy S6 won’t boot normally

Dear DroidGuy.

I have never had any problems with my phone until yesterday when the battery got low (~10%) and I plugged it in. I left it in for an hour or so, and noticed that the red charging light had not been on and the phone was off. I grabbed the phone and tried to power it on, and up popped a blue screen that said something about downloading, and said it was in factory mode. I couldn’t turn the phone on or off or anything at that point, so I just left it until the phone died. Eventually I went to bed and left it plugged in all night, and by the time I woke up the phone still won’t turn on. It won’t even respond to the recovery mode signal (hold power, home, and volume up button simultaneously).

Any advice? — Matthew

Solution: Hi Matthew. If the phone no longer responds when you boot it in recovery mode, try starting it in download (Odin) mode. You can do so by pressing Volume Down, Power, and Home buttons at the same time. If download mode can be accessed, that means that there might be a firmware issue on your Galaxy S6. A good thing to do in this case is to reflash a stock firmware. You can use Google to search for online resources how to do this solution.

Hey! So I’ve been using an S6 Edge for the past 3 months and it was working just fine till a few days back when mid browsing it disconnected from the internet and then when i repeatedly tried turning it back on it wouldn’t work. Thereafter i couldn’t even make calls. Strangely enough i was able to receive calls just fine. i looked it up online and couldn’t find a fix. i have excellent connectivity and that is obviously not the issue. However after i fiddled with it for a while it got fixed and connected back to the internet and i could even make calls! i don’t really know or remember what i did. This didn’t happen for a week or so till now. the same thing has happened again and this time it’s been more than 2 hours and nothing seems to be working! It’s quite sad that one pays quite a lot (super expensive here in India) to get the phone and this happens.

Solution: Hi Sriprada. We recommend that you call your wireless carrier first so you can report the connectivity interruption to them. There may be a network problem affecting some users in your area. We don’t want you to waste your time troubleshooting the phone when the issue is network related. If your carrier confirms that their network is fine and there are no known outages in your area, that’s the time that you can begin troubleshooting the S6.

The first thing that you can try is to refresh the system cache.

For minor firmware-related issues brought by apps and firmware updates, wiping the cache partition often does the trick. It’s because this procedure will literally delete all cached files in the cache partition, which will force the system to create new ones during the next boot up.

This procedure is also very helpful in fixing issues like random reboots, boot loop, stuck during boot up and random freezes after updates. Here’s how you wipe the cache partition on your S6:

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

If you only use mobile data to connect to the internet via a single browser, make sure that you also delete that browser’s cache and data. Examples of browsers include Chrome, Firefox, and the native Samsung internet browser. Here are the steps to clear a browser’s cache and data:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Proceed to Applications.
  • Select Manage Applications.
  • Tap the All tab.
  • Choose the name of the app that has been going rogue.
  • From there, you will see the Clear Cache button.

If both of these procedures won’t chance anything, make sure to do a factory reset (steps provided above).

Problem #4: Galaxy S6 plays sound notification every 30 minutes

Hello! I have 2 problems with my Galaxy and I’m hoping you can help me. The biggest problem I have with my phone is it keeps playing my message notification sound about every 30 minutes. I have tried everything to get it to stop! There are no messages or notifications when it does this! I have to turn my phone off at night because it’s so annoying. I’ve checked my phone to see if it’s a setting I turned on and it’s not. I’ve went through every possible app to see what’s going on. I have no clue what to do!

The second issue I have is when I type a message my Smiley faces don’t come up when I click the smiley icon in the message box. They only work when I click the smiley icon on the bottom of the keyboard. I’ve removed themes thinking it was a glitch and it wasn’t.

Solution: Hi Ana. Sounding off every 30 minutes is definitely not a default behavior of an S6 so, unless you set an alarm or timer to go off regularly, this must only be due to another app. If you can’t pinpoint which of your apps may be responsible, consider booting the phone in safe mode. When booted this way, the phone will prevent third party apps from running so it’s a good method of validating our hunch. Here’s how to do it:

  • Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 20 to 30 seconds.
  • Once you see the Samsung logo, release the Power key immediately but continue pressing the Volume Down key.
  • Your phone should continue booting up and you will be prompted to unlock your phone as usual.
  • You will know if the phone successfully booted in safe mode if the text “Safe mode” is displayed at the lower-left corner of the screen.

Should the phone ignore safe mode and the issue persists, make sure to perform a factory reset. Doing may also fix the second issue.

Problem #5: Wet Galaxy S6 not charging

Hey there! read your post about Charging not working, What it is: my misses dropped her S6 Edge in the toilet on Tuesday, instantly turned of, we let it dried out with rice and airing cupboard. Anyway it’s now Friday, I’ve tried starting it. All it does is either show battery sign with zig zag keeps flashing slowly, or we get 0% with green little ball down bottom glowing on and of, but not charging.

So I’m thinking this must be battery error cut out circuit when got wet damaged battery. I’m going to attempt to change battery soon. I watched plenty of YouTube videos ALOT more easier than iPhone. I’m going to change USB port also at same time. Any suggestions you might think?

I’ve tried every kind of reset possible and it doesn’t do nothing. When i do try turn it on after the 0% battery sign shows Samsung Edge 6 logo shows for 5 seconds then cuts out. Screen perfectly fine because did also come up with Green screen saying downloading Please do not turn of, done that few times, Whether its slowly healing I’m not sure. — Daniel

Solution: Hi Daniel. If the problem you describe here was not present before the phone got wet, there clearly is a hardware issue going on. Because water damage automatically voids warranty repair and replacement, we suggest that you go ahead with your plan to open the phone up and check the circuit board. We can’t be specific enough what the problem might be as it can be anything at this time. You have to make sure though to remove the battery first to prevent further damage on the phone by allowing power to go through other components. In fact, the very first thing that a user must do in this case is to immediately cut the power off, meaning physically removing the battery. You’re supposed to turn the phone back on only if you are 100% certain all moisture and liquid inside are removed. You turning on the phone without thoroughly cleaning it may have already caused permanent damage to some parts.

Problem #: Galaxy S6 touchscreen not working properly

I got this phone on the 5th of January, I have not dropped it or damaged it in any way. I have noticed that the touch screen in the top left and bottom right corners are sometimes unresponsive. The back key and the other light up button light up when I touch these areas so I know that it is kind of responding but the phone acts as if I hadn’t touched it if that makes sense. Like with my SnapChat, when I hit the send button in the lower right corner those buttons next to the home key light up but I have to keep pressing the send key over and over again before it responds. I know it’s not just the app because if I try to slide the notification bar down from the top left it will not respond either. Is this a common issue or should I take it back before my 30 days is up?

Solution: Hi Cierra. This may be a hardware issue, particularly a bad touchscreen. Try to check the status of your phone’s LCD via service menu. You can do so by dialing *#0*#. This code will give you many options. Simply tap on Touch and check if all squares respond to your taps. If a single square won’t register your touch, that’s an indication of a bad touchscreen. Call Samsung or the relevant party to get a replacement.
