S5 Camera Freezes The Phone
Problem: Basically when I go to take a photo and press camera (shutter) button there is a momentary delay then the whole phone freezes (black screen). When this happens you can’t do anything with the phone other than remove the battery, carry out a soft reset, then re-boot phone. Its really hit & miss as to whether or not it will happen straight away again if you try to retake the photo. Sometimes it works, then other times it just freezes up again. It’s really frustrating and it seems to be happening far more frequently. Any help you could bring would be most grateful. Many thanks
Solution: Sometimes issues such as this is caused by some form of corrupt data in your phone. To start the troubleshooting try to clear the cache and data of the camera app. Once this is done check if the issue still occurs.
The next step to do should the issue still persist is to start your phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This will delete the temporary data stored in your phone. Restart your phone normally then check if the issue still occurs.
Sometimes a faulty microSD card can also cause this type of problem. This usually occurs when the photos taken are saved in the microSD card. When the camera tries to write the data to the card it will take a long time due to some corrupt sectors in the card. This will then usually lead to the phone freezing. Try to remove the microSD card if your phone has one then check if the issue still occurs.
Another factor that can cause this problem is a third party app installed in your phone. To check if this is the case you should start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps will run while apps you downloaded are disabled. If the problem does not occur in this mode then it is likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the issue then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S5 Pictures Randomly Disappearing From Gallery
Problem: My pictures are randomly disappearing from my Gallery. I have tried resets, different SD cards, my pictures are there one minute and the next, they are in a “format” that can’t be opened. It’s recent, within the last month that this has occurred. If I take a five pictures, at least one of them will be unavailable to me when I go immediately into the Gallery to see it. This is super frustrating. Can you help?
Solution: Is the camera set to save the photos in the microSD card? If it is then set it to save the photos to the internal storage of the phone then temporarily take out the microSD card. Try taking some photos and see if the problem still occurs.
If the issue persists then it’s time to get rid of some temporary data in your phone. Start by clearing the cache and data of the camera and gallery app. Next, start your phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. Restart your phone normally then check if the problem still occurs.
One other factor that you should not overlook is a third party app installed in your phone that is causing this issue. To check if this is the case you should start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps will run while apps you downloaded are disabled. Try taking some pictures in this mode. If the problem does not occur then it might be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
S5 Camera Pictures Missing After Update
Problem: I did a Samsung update today for 2016 and everything seems to be fine except every picture I take says it’s saved to the system storage but when I go into the gallery I can’t find it. I took a picture and clicked on the little window you see your picture in while still in the camera and a message says cannot locate image. Any advice you have is greatly appreciated.
Solution: Since this issue occured right after a software update then it is most likely caused by some old data of the previous software that has not been completely removed from your phone. This data is causing a conflict with the new software version resulting in this problem. I would suggest that you backup your phone data and do a factory reset to fix this problem.
S5 Restoring Corrupt Photos
Problem: The latest group of pictures I took have vertical and horizontal lines over the picture. The lines are in a dark and lighter pattern over the picture, and some of the pictures have grey smudges over people’s faces. I took my camera the my local Verizon store, and the associate deleted and reinstalled the camera app. The camera is now taking pictures without the lines and smudges, which is great. But, how can I fix the corrupted pictures to delete the lines and smudges? Is there an app for this?
Solution: Unfortunately there is no easy way to restore the corrupt photos automatically since this has to be done manually . If you know how to use Photoshop or any other photo editing software then you can edit the photos to delete the lines and smudges.
