#Motorola Mobility will officially cease to exist as far as device branding is concerned, Motorola’s COO, Rick Osterloh has said. In an interview with a leading site, he also mentioned that these devices will be known as Lenovo or Vibe phones. This won’t impact the existing lot of devices, however.
This was always on the cards and we’ve not seen Motorola branding being used on the company’s devices since 2013 as the company’s press release rightly points out. We have however seen the iconic logo on its recent crop of devices.
You can read Motorola’s statement in its entirety below –
“Motorola Mobility continues to exist as a Lenovo company and is the engineering and design engine for all of our mobile products. However, for our product branding we will utilize a dual brand strategy across smartphone and wearables going forward using Moto and Vibe globally. “Motorola” hasn’t been used on our products since the launch of the original Moto X in 2013.”
With this move, Lenovo wants to bring Motorola fully under its wing and unify the two brands under the Vibe moniker. Only time will tell if this move will prove to be successful for the company.
