Google finally bringing promo codes to apps on the Play Store

Google Play Store

Apps on the #Google #PlayStore have always lacked the support for promo codes, something that iOS has had for quite some time. Google is now officially changing that by allowing app promo codes. This means the developers can start sending out promo codes for free or paid apps to offer discounts or free in-app content to their users.

Developers are only allowed to generate 500 promo codes per quarter and if they still have some pending at the end of a quarter, they cannot be carried forward to the next cycle. Also, the promo codes cannot be used to get subscriptions for services, so it is meant strictly for app content.

Developers can find the change in the Play Store dev console right away. This is a welcome sign from Google, although developers have found a way to utilize promo codes within their apps for a long time now. But it’s good to know that such a feature is available directly on the Play Store, thus saving developers the trouble of creating something on their own.
