Problem: Yesterday after snowboarding my phone stopped charging because it says the battery is either too hot or too cold. It changes, even if the battery has been sitting at room temperature. It may have gotten some water inside. The phone stays on when plugged in, just doesn’t charge. Also the back button and menu button aren’t responding. I was wondering if I got a new battery that could fix the charging issue, or if it’s something more serious than that.
Solution: You should first check the other factors that can cause this issue before your phone batter. Since you mentioned that the phone may have gotten some water inside the best thing to do is to dry your phone first. You can bury it in a bowl of rice for 24 hours to get rid of moisture that may be present inside your phone. Make sure to take out the battery when doing this.
Once the 24 hours have passed carefully inspect your phone charging port. If it has any signs of dirt or debris then clean it using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.
Reinsert the battery then turn on your phone. Connect your phone to its wall charger and see if it charges.
If your phone does not charge then try to replace the USB charging cord. This cord gets easily broken especially if it is bent or coiled repeatedly. You should also try using a different wall charger.
If the phone still does not charge then you should proceed with backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset.
If after the reset the issue remains then it’s time to get a new battery. If your phone does not charge with the new battery then I suggest you bring it to an authorized service center as this may already be a hardware related issue.
S5 Loses Charge Quickly
Problem: My s5 doesn’t keep its charge. I have changed the battery and charger. The new cable charges up the phone much quicker but i’m still losing the charge. After it was fully charged it lost about 10% in 10 minutes without me doing anything.please help. Thanks
Solution: This problem could be caused by some form of corrupt data, a rogue app running in the background, or a process that is stuck.
To resolve this issue try wiping the cache partition of your phone first from the recovery mode. This deletes the temporary data stored in your phone. Check if the problem still persists.
A third party app that you installed in your phone can also cause this type of problem. To check if this is the case you should start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps in your phone are allowed to run while the apps that you downloaded are disabled. Check if the battery drain issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then there’s a possibility that an app is causing this problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the problem then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S5 No Longer Charges
Problem: My phone will no longer charge on the charger that came with the phone. This happened once I returned home from a flight. Nothing out of the ordinary happened to my phone and it works fine. I turned off the phone and tried to charge with power off. The icon shows up on the phone that it is charging but it seemed to drain the battery faster. I took out the battery for a few minutes and replaced with no change. I swapped batteries with my wife who has the same phone without any issues. Her phone will charge with my battery but my phone will not charge with her battery. My phone did charge off my laptop at work for 1 day. It would charge for 30 minutes or so and then stop. I have had the phone for about 1 year now. Any ideas?
Solution: Have you tried using a different wall charger ( with a different USB charging cord) when charging your phone? If your phone still does not charge then try checking its charging port. If you spot any presence of dirt or debris then clean it using a can of compressed air or a cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Check if your phone charges this time.
If your phone still does not charge then backup your phone data and do a factory reset. This troubleshooting step is necessary to eliminate any software related issues that may be causing this problem.
If your phone still does not charge after the reset then I suggest you bring it to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S5 Only Charges If Cord Is Pushed
Problem: I’ve tried multiple cords, chargers, usb ports, etc. The phone charges when I push the original charger into the socket, but if I release the (light) pressure it stops charging. I’ve cleaned the socket, cleaned the cord, etc. Wiggling the cord does nothing. Do I need to go through the (lengthy, risky) process of installing a new socket?
Solution: This problem is most likely caused by a defective phone charging port. You need to have this checked at an authorized service center and possibly have it replaced.
S5 Does Not Charge Unless Cord Is Wiggled
Problem: When I plug it in with the charger. I sometimes find it not wanting to change unless I either try pushing the charger in future. Or I sometimes I have. To hang it or just wiggle it back and forth on the table. But mostly it will not charge at all.
Solution: In most cases just like this the main cause of the problem is a faulty USB charging cord. Try using a different charging cord and see if the issue disappears. You should also check the charging port of your phone for any signs of dirt or debris. Clean the port if necessary using a can of compressed air or a cotton bud dipped in alcohol.
If the problem still persists then the phone charging port may have a problem. Have this checked at an authorized service center.
S5 Does Not Turn On Unless Connected To Charger
Problem: The phone was recently dropped. And now if the phone “flex” it will turn itself off and the only way to turn it back on is to connect to a charger.
Solution: The drop may have affected some internal hardware component inside your phone. You can however try to backup your phone data and do a factory reset to eliminate the possibility of a software problem causing this issue. If the problem still occurs after the reset then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
