S4 Turns Off Won’t Turn Back On
Problem: it automatically turned off and i am not able to turn it on. I tried to remove and replace the battery. When i replace the battery it automatically showing the galaxy s4 symbol and again it turning off.
Solution: Replacing the battery is a good first troubleshooting step and it did show some improvement as your phone can now boot to the Samsung logo but then it immediately turns off.
Try taking out the battery and the microSD card of your phone. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute to discharge the device and clear its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then turn on your phone.
If the issue persists then check if the battery has sufficient charge.
To do this just plug in your wall charger and charge the phone for at least 20 minutes. You should be able to see the charging icon or the charging LED indicator light up.
If the phone does not seem to charge then try replacing the USB charging cord or the wall charger itself. You should also check the charging port of our phone for any signs of dirt or debris. If you spot any then clean the port using a can of compressed air or a cotton bud dipped in alcohol.
Assuming that your phone is able to charge you should try to turn on the device and see if it proceeds. If the issue persists then check if you can access the recovery mode of your phone. Once your phone is in recovery mode you should wipe the cache partition of your device first then reboot your phone.
If the problem still occurs then go back to recovery mode then do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete all the data stored in your phone so only consider this step if you have recently made a backup of your phone data.
S4 Not Turning On
Problem: Not turning on, not charging. No lights, sound or vibration. PC recognises a device plugged in, but can’t find drivers. Have taken battery out (phone was getting a little warm, but not overheating) and put back in, still no response.
Solution: For this particular issue try taking out the battery again as well as the microSD card if you have one installed. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute to discharge the phone and clear out its RAM. Once this is done reinsert just the battery and turn on your phone.
If the problem still occurs then the next step is to make sure the battery can be charged. To do this you need to connect the phone to its wall charger for at least 20 minutes. Check if there is any indication that the phone is charging. If the phone does not charge then try to replace the USB charging cord that you are using. This cord gets easily damaged especially if it is coiled or bent constantly. You should also try to replace the wall charger that you are using.
After 20 minutes of charging your phone check if you can now turn it on. If it doesn’t turn on then try using a new battery on the device. Make sure that the new battery has sufficient charge.
If your phone still does not turn on with the new battery then check if you can access the recovery mode of your phone. From here the first thing you need to do is to wipe the cache partition of your phone. If that does not work then proceed with doing a factory reset. Take note that this will delete all the data stored in your phone so only do this asa last resort.
If your phone still does not start or you can’t access the recovery mode then I suggest you bring your device to an authorized service center as this may already be a hardware related problem.
S4 Dropped In Tub Of Water Does Not Turn ON
Problem: Phone was dropped in tub by son for about 30 seconds. I pulled it out and immediately put it in rice. After a couple hours the phone turned back on but is now dead and will not turn on and red light stays on. I looked at the stickers for water damage and it has not changed to a pink or red color. Any suggestions?
Solution: Even if the stickers in your phone has not changed color there’s still a chance that the phone could be water damaged. Try getting a new battery and see if you can turn on your phone. Make sure that the new battery has sufficient charge. If you can’t turn on your phone then I suggest you bring it to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S4 Does Not Turn On After Getting Wet
Problem: hi there I have a major issue with my s4. a few nights ago I had my phone on a charger overnight. it apparently did not take a charge as the phone was dead the next morning. when plugged into different chargers it will not take a charge. with a different battery it will not boot up however it will load the menu to do a factory reset. a bit of water did get on the phone and the battery is red however as I stated a different battery will perform a factory reset but nothing else. when this first happened the next morning I tried to turn my phone on it went into a downloading screen and seemed to freeze… I removed the battery and then this problem occurred… please help
Solution: Were you able to successfully complete the factory reset? If after the reset the problem still occurs then this may already be hardware related most likely caused by the water entering your phone. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S4 Randomly Shuts Down Gets Stuck On AT&T Screen
Problem: phone will randomly shut down and go to the atnt screen, i will shut it down and trun it back on and it will freeze and then repeat.
Solution: The first thing that you should do in this case is to take out the phone battery and the microSD card if you have one installed then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges your phone battery and clears out its RAM. Once this is done reinsert just the battery then try to turn on your phone.
If the problem still occurs then connect your phone to its wall charger and let it charge for at leat 20 minutes. With the phone still connected to the charger try to turn it on.
If the phone still does not turn on then check if you can access the recovery mode of your device. From here you should first try to wipe the cache partition of your phone then do a reboot. If the issue persists then access the recovery mode again and do a factory reset. Take note that this wil delete all of your phone data so you should only do this as a last resort or if you have recently made a backup of your phone data.
S4 Gets Hot Then Shuts Off
Problem: when my phone is plugged up to a USB and is turned on it gets EXTREMELY hot then shuts off, it doesnt charge and it doesnt turn on. the battery doesnt get hot the phone it self does.
Solution: This problem could be caused by a defective USB cord. See if this issue occurs when using a different USB cord. You should also try connecting your phone to a different USB port.
If the problrm still occurs then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset to eliminate the possibility of this being a software related problem.
