Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Camera started crashing after an update, Camera icon disappeared, & other related issues

Your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge (#Samsung #GalaxyS6Edge) has an amazing primary camera, however, many owners have already been complaining about issues related to taking pictures, crashes, etc. For instance, the first issue I cited here is about a unit whose Camera started to crash after a firmware update. When it comes to the camera, there’s always a chance it’s a hardware or a firmware issue or both. That’s why you need to rule out one possibility after another.

There’s also an issue about the Camera icon that just disappeared for no apparent reason. Clearly it’s a bug that needs to be addressed by Samsung but of course, owners don’t want to know why and how the issue happens, all they want is to fix the problem.

Read on to learn more about these problems and how to fix them. If you are looking for a solution to a different problem, then visit our Galaxy S6 Edge troubleshooting page. Here are the problems I addressed in this post…

Galaxy S6 Edge Camera started to crash after an update

ProblemThere was an update recently for my phone. I didn’t want it but it kept popping up every time so I downloaded it. The thing is, I already tried updating my phone and it was messed up the last time. Had I not found your website, I wouldn’t be able to fix the issue. Now this problem I have is caused by the update again but I’m hoping it would be minor.

The camera in my phone, which is a Galaxy S6 Edge, by the way, started to crash immediately after the update. What should I do in order to preserve all my data while fixing this problem? Thanks in advance. You guys rock!

Troubleshooting: We are happy we were able to help you with your problem before and I hope we can help you now, too. Well, since it is firmware related, I think the cause is just some corrupt caches. That being said, the first thing I want you to do is wipe the cache partition. The procedure is more like general troubleshooting but it’s the most effective way to try to fix this problem.

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

The next thing you should do if wiping the cache partition left you with the same trouble is to clear both the cache and the data of the Camera app itself.

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to ‘APPLICATIONS,’ then tap Application manager.
  4. Swipe right to the ALL screen.
  5. Scroll to and tap Camera.
  6. Tap Clear cache.
  7. Tap Clear data, then OK.

Now, this one’s a bit extreme but if all else fails, your last option is to do the master reset. It will delete all your data and files, apps and pictures and anything so be sure to back them up before following these steps:

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
  3. When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
  4. Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
  6. Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
  7. After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.

Camera icon disappeared from Galaxy S6 Edge apps screen

ProblemThe camera icon has disappeared from home screen and apps. Can only find camera by search or quick access -double click. How do I get it back?

Answer: It’s definitely a bug. I don’t know if it was just the icon that disappeared leaving the word “Camera” behind because I also encountered this issue before. The icon disappeared from it’s place leaving the description behind. We won’t know the cause so try to reboot your phone if you haven’t done it already.

You may also try booting it in safe mode to see if the icon reappears in that state. There were reported cases of rogue third-party apps that caused this kind of problem. Try these steps:

  1. Turn off your Galaxy S6 Edge.
  2. Press and hold the Power key.
  3. When ‘Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge’ appears, immediately release the Power key and then press and hold the Volume Down button.
  4. Continue holding the Volume Down button until the phone finishes the restart.
  5. When you see Safe Mode on the lower left corner of the screen, release the button.

If the icon shows in safe mode, then wiping the cache partition will fix it, otherwise, I suggest you do the reset.

Pictures taken by Galaxy S6 Edge camera turn green

ProblemSince today 3.11.15 , every second picture I take with the rear camera of my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge , with or without flash, turns green. No exceptions. Every. Second. Picture. This is the one major issue I’m facing.

A second but minor one is that, from time to time, while being in a call with someone, the receiving sound is “tearing” and gets distorted to the point of not understanding, and this keeps on until one of us hangs up and calls again. Thank you!

Troubleshooting: About the pictures that turn green, we haven’t encountered this issue before but have you installed any third-party camera apps prior to this problem or filters perhaps? One way to isolate the problem is to boot the phone in safe mode and try to take pictures from there. If the second picture taken still turns green, then it must be an issue with the firmware or the stock camera app itself, otherwise, this problem can be fixed by clearing the cache and data of the Camera.

About the distorted voice during calls, it has something to do with the network the phone is connected to. Try turning off VoLTE and it should be fixed.

Galaxy S6 Edge pictures displayed in different color filters

ProblemI have Galaxy S6 Edge phone. I was ok when the old version of Galaxy S6 was on it but after I downloaded version 5.1.1 on my phone, I found problem with my phone on color. When I open camera to take photo, in preview, i see all blue colour things, in green colour or yellow things in white colour. also when receive a photo i have same problem in gallery. Please let me know what is the problem.

Troubleshooting: The question is do these pictures with different colors exist on your phone? If so, then there must be filters that are automatically applied the moment you take the pictures. Clearing the data of the Camera app will take care of this issue.

Galaxy S6 Edge Camera shows “Camera Failed” error

Problem: Well one day I pulled up my camera on my s6 edge and it immediately says camera failed I do not know what to do or how to solve it. It will just exit out of the camera immediately. Please reply back any advice would be great.

Troubleshooting: Unlike other crashing issues that only affect the Camera app, this error indicates there might be an issue with the Camera hardware itself. The first thing to do is to isolate the problem by booting the phone in safe mode and try to see if the same error shows:

If the error message still pops up in safe mode, it is more likely a hardware issue, however, you are obliged to do the master reset before sending it for repair.

Galaxy S6 Edge freezes when using the Camera

Problem: It just keeps freezing. First it only did while using snapchat but every now and then everything just freezes especially the camera related stuff.

Troubleshooting: I suggest you boot your phone in safe mode and try to use the Camera or other apps that uses it. If the freezes still occur, then clear the cache and data of the camera app. If that doesn’t make a difference, then try the wiping of the cache partition and then the factory reset.
