S5 Text Message Sending Failed

Problem: I just bought an unlocked S5 Active to use with AT&T. I love the phone other then it seems to have issues randomly with service. I will be on the play store and it tells me there is no data connection and its restricted but I have went and checked in the setting and it’s not. Trying to send a text message sometimes is very difficult because it keeps coming back to me saying “Failed” so I continue to keep trying until it does go through. Sometimes it works perfectly fine then others it will take a good minute before it finally goes through, it just shows the rolling circle at the bottom. Also randomly while I am on the net it says no data connection and it stops. Other times it is perfectly fine. I have checked ATT and they have no issues with service, my roommate actually has AT&T with an S4 and she is having no trouble at all. I had a S3 before this which I too had no issues. Could a setting be off on this phone. I have no clue about phones whatsoever. Thanks

Solution: Have you noticed if the issue occurs in a certain area or location? If it does then this may be a signal related issue. However, since you mentioned that your roommate is not experiencing any any of the issues your phone has then this may not be a network related problem.

For this problem I suggest you try to wipe the cache partition of your phone first. If the problem is caused by some form of corrupt data then this procedure will help a lot.

There are also instances when an app you installed in your phone can cause this problem. To check if this is the case you should start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the default apps are allowed to run while the apps you downloaded are disabled. If you can send a text message or if you can connect to the Internet without any problems in this mode then an app may be the culprit. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

One last resort you should consider if the above troubleshooting steps fail is to do a factory reset using the hardware keys. Just make sure to backup your phone data before performing this procedure.

S5 Not Sending Text Message

Problem: for 2 days now I have not been able to send sms text. They go but only after 5 or 6 hours and my battery is going flat very quickly.  Phone also getting very hot.  I have deleted all apps that I have put on recently.  Stopped anything that should not be running and cleared cache all with no luck.  Please help. Thanks

Solution: This issue is most likely caused by some form of corrupt data in your phone. Since you have already cleared the cache of the messaging app try deleting its data as well. You should also follow this up by wiping the cache partition of your phone.

Try to check if an app you installed in your phone is causing this problem by starting your device in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps will be allowed to run. Send  text message. If it sends normally then the problem may be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. You will have to do a trial and error method in finding the app.

If the issue still persists at this point then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Sending Text Message To Premium Number

Problem: My phone seem to be sending cryptic message to some number I didn’t recall sending. One example is a particular message DCB:WPH4IEBHBDVOLP9KMXR9FCEL was sent to 2147 and Initiate GJcjZC%2BOQB%2BJUPag0b9lN0odwAW%2BzotgKQU6PzbxejrE7hXv%2FHN4j2pcG7KNL6Do was sent to 2887. It seems like I’m a malware victim. Can you help? Thanks guys!

Solution: Does your phone have any security software installed? If you don’t have one then I suggest you go to the Google Play Store and download one. Choose from among the popular top free security apps then install it in your phone. Let the app scan your phone for any malware.

If it detects one then see if it can remove the malware. If it can’t be removed then you will have to backup your phone data then do a factory reset using the hardware keys.

To avoid getting any malware in the future follow the tips listed below

  • Avoid visiting suspicious websites using your phone browser. Some of these websites have pop-up ads that prompt a visitor to download an app to the phone.
  • You should only download apps from the Google Play Store. Although this is not a 100% guarantee that you won’t get a malware from the Play Store the good thing about this is that Google has several layers of protection to detect any malware on the apps.
  • Before installing any app make sure to check the user reviews and the permission it needs to run. A simple flashlight app for example does not need to access your contacts list.
  • Always have the latest software update running on your device.
  • Although not necessary, you can install a security software in your phone to add another layer of protection.

S5 Cannot Send Or Receive Text Message

Problem: I cannot send or receive text messages. My battery has been normal until today. I  have to keep it on a charger. I have been into the store and they were unable to help me. They put in a new Sims card

Solution: Have you tried checking if your phone has any signal? If no signal is available then this may be the problem. Another factor that can cause this issue is your account. Contact your service provider and have them check if your account has any issues.

If the network and your account are fine then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the reset check if you can now send or receive a text message.

If the problem persists then this may already be a hardware related issue. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Sending Blank Text Messages

Problem: My wife and son have Galaxy S6 Edges (service provider is Sprint for their phones). Some of the texts I send to them appear as blank balloons on their phones (they can see that I sent a text, but not the text itself).  This does not occur with all of the texts that I send to them, but it does occur frequently.  I do not have the same issue with texts that they send to me.  Our other son has an iPhone and does not experience the same problem with the texts that I send.

Solution: Try sending yourself a text message and see if you receive a blank message. If you can receive the text normally then this usually indicates that the problem is on the recipient’s end. Have your wife and son start their devices in Safe Mode then observe if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then there may be an app installed in their devices that is interfering with the messaging app. To resolve this issue they need to find out what app is causing the problem and uninstall it.

S5 No Text Notification If Messaging App Is Open

Problem: I receive a notification ‘ding’ when I receive a text.  However, if I leave the text dialog open, and I get a response from someone or even a new text from someone else, it doesn’t ‘ding’ to notify me that I have a new text. Volume is up.

Solution: According to a Samsung representative this is a new feature change in the latest software update. There is no sound notification if the app is open. Since there is no way to change this setting you can try using other messaging apps. One app I could suggest is Hangouts which is already installed in your device.
