S4 Black Screen Issue

Problem: Lost all data recently… phone did self-rest and format. Restored most all. NOW, the phone’s screen is dead.  I cannot see anything.  It flickered a while, dimmed to nothing, and now totally black. The screen still responds to touch… I can swipe and unlock.  All buttons work too. I’ve tried resetting (all 3 buttons with up/down/all vol). Tried opening and cleaning all with brush.  Screen connector is attached.  Still no backlight to my screen. Read through so many blogs, help sites (yours…) and Youtube vids.  Nothing works. Help! Thanks so much, (Can’t boot to see which Android version I have.)

Solution: Try doing another round of factory reset and check if the issue gets resolved. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this procedure. If you the display is still black then I suggest you bring it to an authorized service center and have its hardware checked. The problem may already be with the display.

S4 Screen Flickers Then Goes Black

Problem: My phone screen starter flashing when I tried unlocking it. Then it went black and I can’t turn it back on. The blue led light flashes and the arrow and option keys light up white, but the screen still stays black. I have tried turning it off and then back on, taking the battery out, but nothing works.

Solution: Check first if this issue is caused by a glitch in your phone software by wiping the cache partition of your phone. If the problem persists then connect your phone to a computer running on Kies. Make sure that your phone is turned on so that it will be detected. Back up your phone data then restore your phone software.

If the problem still persists then the display may be damaged. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Grey Flickering Screen

Problem: Top 2/3 of screen is visible but has a grey ‘cover’. The top 1/3 is darker grey and harder to read. The screen is flickering, too. I just installed a new battery when this started a few weeks ago but it’s still there and occurring almost all the time now. The phone was purchased in May 2013. It has an otterbox case but has been dropped a few times. Take in for repair or time to buy a new one?

Solution: It looks like this may already be a hardware related problem. Try taking your phone out of its otterbox case then backup your phone data using Kies. After the backup do a factory reset either by using Kies or through the phone’s hardware keys.

If you still experience the same issue after the reset then the display of your phone may be damaged. Bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Green Screen

Problem: I was told that my phone has water damage, yet the screen will turn on but it’s a pixally greenish colour. I can still see an outline of “Samsung s4” on the boot up screen, and I can feel the vibration when you touch the screen. Is there a way to fix this without replacing the whole screen?

Solution: You could try to perform a factory reset on your phone first to check if the problem is software related. Make sure to backup your phone data first which I suggest you do with Kies.

If the problem still persists after the factory reset then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Accessing Phone With Broken Display

Problem: Hello. My screen is broken and my LCD i gone too. I’m trying to access the stuff on my phone via a usb cable to the computer but i can’t because there is a password on my phone and normally i’ll have to unlock my phone and switch it to usb but in this case the entire screen is blank. What other way is there for me to get my pictures and music and should i repair my phone or just buy a new one?

Solution: If your phone has a microSD card and your pictures and music are saved in this card then you just have to take out the card and connect it to your computer. You can then copy the data in the card.

If the pictures and music are stored in the internal storage space of your phone then there is no way to access this unless you unlock your device. If there are important data in your phone then you should have your screen replaced first before you can access your phone data.

S4 Black Screen With Yellow Glitch

Problem: As I was using my phone, a yellow glitch covers the screen, and the screen goes black. I tried taking the battery out and putting it back in. I tried holding the power button down for a minute. I tried pressing all three buttons (volume, home, and power)… I even blow dried it LOL even though I didn’t get it wet. Is there a way I can fix it or do I need to replace the digitizer?

Solution: Try connecting your phone using a USB cord to a computer running on Kies. If your phone can be detected then backup its data and restore the phone software.

If the problem persists or if the phone is not detected by Kies then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center as its display may already be damaged.
