S4 Battery Drains Fast
Problem: In short: The phone is slow, alarm doesn’t go off, battery drains fast, gets really warm, bluetooth doesn’t work, emails don’t work, when connecting it to the pc via a usb cable I cannot access it. The first thing I noticed was that the phone got really slow, but I didn’t think that it was serious On Tuesday the 27th. On the morning of the 28th, my alarm did not go off and I couldn’t get it to go off ever since. I know that sometimes certain information like the day that you want it to go off and so on would be unchecked and cause the alarm to not go off, but this wasn’t the case. Also when I change the alarm to a different time to see if it would go off, it takes almost a minute before it refreshed on my home screen. My battery started draining really fast and my phone got really warm so I asked a friend if I could bluetooth something to her before my phone went off and then I realized that my bluetooth wasn’t working either. This morning I wanted to check my email and then saw that it wouldn’t refresh and found that my email is not working from my phone either. My lock screen has a password on it but the it only asks for the password when I switch the screen off myself, if the screen goes off by itself, my phone does not ask for my password when I switch the screen on again. It only says google services is responsible for using the most battery life. I wanted to save all necessary media and whatever else I could on my laptop via a usb cable, but I cannot access my phone from the laptop, it simply does not show that my phone is connected to it at all. Please help. Thank you
Solution: It looks like your phone is suffering from multiple issues. The first thing that you will need to do is to backup your phone data. Since you mentioned that your phone is not detected by your computer try starting your device in Safe Mode before connecting it to your computer. Make sure to use a USB cord that is known to work and have the latest version of Kies installed in your computer. Once the phone is detected proceed with the data backup.
Once you have backed up your phone data the next thing to do is to perform a factory reset. This restores your phone to its original condition when it was new. If the issue is caused by some form of corrupt software data then this will resolve the issue.
Once the factory reset is complete try to observe the battery life of your phone first. If you see an improvement then proceed with the installation of your favorite apps.
S4 Battery Drains In 3 Hours
Problem: Hi, my phone suddenly flattens a fully charged battery in 3 hours without making any calls etc. It does this with a new battery as well. Charges better when device is off else it take very long. when in use it freezes & becomes very slow. Certain functions stop functioning ie keypad operation while making a call. It also will not transfer data to my laptop although the 2 devices do `see each other`. I have tried 2 usb cables & my Tab works with laptop. Someone mentioned motherboard or usb port. It has software version 4.4.2. Samsung told me it will take 4 days for a quote but I am leaving for a business trip in 3 days & need my phone. Any advise will be appreciated. I have just bought a sd card to transfer my data from the device
Solution: This battery drain problem could be caused by corrupt data in your phone. I suggest you backup your personal data then do a factory reset. If your phone has a microSD card installed then you should format it as well.
Once the factory reset has completed check if the battery life of your phone has improved. If there is an improvement then try connecting your phone to your computer and see if you can now transfer data.
S4 Not Charging Not Powering Up
Problem: Hi. After recently upgrading my galaxys s4 ,I noticed that I could not charge the device up..It’s coming up with a grey thunderbolt symbol..then shuts off then again it tries to charge and grey symbol reappears. I’ve had the usb charging module changed as well…but no luck.?..tried soft reset, hard reset, but it’s just not powering up?.It’s s4 1905 model.Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
Solution: Try taking out your phone battery and microSD card then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges your phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert the battery but leave the microSD out then try to turn on your phone. If your phone does not turn on then connect it to it wall charger and let it charge for at least 20 minutes.
If your phone does not charge or turn on then try replacing the battery with a new one.
If the problem persists then the software of your phone may have been corrupted by the upgrade. You should consider reflashing your phone using Odin. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online. Take note that this procedure will delete the data stored in your device so you should only proceed with this if you have recently made a backup of your phone data.
S4 Stuck In Boot Screen
Problem: My Samsung Galaxy S4 is stuck on the Boot screen when it shows the “Samsung Galaxy S4” on the beginning screen. It doesn’t want to start up, it started happening this morning at around 9 am PST. I am waiting for the battery to die but nothing is working. I asked one of my peers to let me use their battery to check if it was the battery, but my battery worked perfectly on their phone, and theirs didn’t work on mine; the same thing happened on my phone, whilst hers turned on. This problem also happens if I start to charge my phone, the charging icon (battery with lightning bolt in the middle) appears but it flickers on and off in 3 second intervals. I hope you can help me with this problem, as I don’t want to completely have to buy a new phone. I used the following link to find your e-mail, and have tried all of the steps on there to check if this would fix my phone or not, but none of these worked either as my phone wouldn’t even respond to the buttons I was pressing and just turn on and off. Link I used: https://thedroidguy.com/2014/01/fix-samsung-galaxy-s4-keeps-rebooting-stuck-boot-loop-83102
Thanks in advance.
Solution: If you have followed the troubleshooting steps provided in the link but still the issue remains then it is possible that your phone software has been corrupted. One last thing you should try is to reflash your phone. You will need a copy of your phone firmware as well as a program called Odin installed in your computer. Instructions on how to perform this procedure can be found at several of the popular android forums online.
S4 Does Not Start
Problem: When I place my battery in my phone. The screen comes on but doesn’t go past the screen that says “Samsung Galaxy s4” and it will pop up every few seconds till my battery is dead or till I take out the battery. The phone gets hot behind the camera as well.
Solution: Try to check if you can boot your phone in Safe Mode first. If you can then the problem may be caused by an app installed in your phone. Usually, this is caused by the last app you installed prior to this issue occurring. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If your phone does not boot properly in safe mode then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone. If the problem is caused by some form of corrupt cached data then this procedure will resolve the issue.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail then you should consider performing a factory reset. Take note that this deletes everything in your phone so you should only do this if you are willing to lose your data or if you have recently made a backup of your phone data.
S4 Gets Hot Loses Charge Rapidly
Problem: I have an S4 I purchased Nov. 2014. I’m with Straight Talk. Every few weeks the phone gets hot, about 107 to 110 degrees and the battery will rapidly drop to 20 or 30%. This started occurring about 3 months after I first got it. No new apps added, no game playing, no music etc., just basically use it for phone, text, camera and some Internet searches. When I shut phone down and recharge and reboot it works fine for another 4 or 5 weeks. It usually happens while the phone is idle, once while talking. I’ll just feel it heating up in my shirt pocket. It’s so intermittent I haven’t been able to show the problem to any tech savvy folks. Any tips would help, thanks.
Solution: There’s a possibility that the problem could be caused by some form of corrupt data in your phone. I suggest you try wiping the cache partition of your phone first.
If you still experience the issue then check if an app installed in your phone is causing the problem. To do this you should start your phone in Safe Mode. If the issue disappears in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
One last troubleshooting step you should consider is a factory reset if the above steps fail. Just make sure to backup your phone data first.
