When your phone is low on power the first thing that you do is to grab the wall charger and charge the device. The #Samsung Galaxy #Note4 with its 3220mAh battery can go for a longer amount of time before it needs a recharge nevertheless the device still needs to be charged once the battery life becomes low.
Charging the Note 4 is quite simple since all you have to do is to plug the wall charger to an outlet then plug the charging cable to the phone. There are however instances when the phone will not charge normally, which is what we will tackle today.
In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will resolve the Galaxy Note 4 slow charging issue and other related problems.

Note 4 Charges Slow
Problem: my note 4 was eating through my battery so i ordered a brand new battery. that new battery was draining quickly so i performed a hard reset and now when phone is on , it doesn’t recognize the charger, when it’s off, it gets a lightening bolt on the screen and vibrates every 2 seconds. if i leave it plugged in like that it will charge extremely slow. i’ve tried both batteries and multiple chargers and cables
Solution: The first thing you need to check is the physical connection. Check your phone charging port for any signs of dirt or debris. If necessary, clean this port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. The USB cable is also a factor in this type of issue. This cord gets easily broken if it is constantly coiled or bent. Get another cord and see if it resolves the issue ( preferable another Note 4 cord or a Note 4 certified cord). You should also try using another Samsung wall charger.
Since you already performed a factory reset then we can skip this part.
If the problem still persists at this point then this could be caused by a defective charging port on your phone. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
Note 4 Battery Drains Fast
Problem: I will go all day with the same battery and will go to bed fully charged. Looking at my graph, there suddenly is a enormous power drain between 1 and 3 am. I have to plug in like at 4 am. I can’t figure out what is causing it. It just started a week ago. Any thoughts? I don’t have any new apps that I can think of.
Solution: Try checking on your battery settings during the time the issue occurs and see what is using up your phone battery life. You will get a list of the apps and services that is using up your battery, check for any unusual activity. There may be an app that runs during this particular time.
You can also start your phone in Safe Mode before you got to bed. Make sure your phone is fully charged before setting your phone to Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while the apps you downloaded and installed in your device are disabled. This makes it easier to check if a third party app is draining your battery. When you wake up in the morning you should check the battery status of your phone first. If the battery drain issue disappears then the problem is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
There are also instances when a form of corrupt data causes this issue. If this is the case then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
If your phone has a microSd card installed then try removing it. If this card has some corrupt sectors then it may also cause the battery drain problem since the phone will have a hard time accessing the data stored in it.
One final troubleshooting step that you should consider is a factory reset using the hardware keys. Take note that this deletes all data stored in your phone so you should make sure to backup your data before performing this procedure.
Note 4 Battery Draining Fast After Software Update
Problem: Hi, I have a Note 4 and I received an update from Samsung and I updated it OTA, since then battery backup is not what it was before with 90% of charge it is saying me that I have 9hrs 30min left. How is this even possible?! Charge is dropping @1% per 2-3 min while casual browsing. I took the battery out and put it again, but no change. Please help, I don’t want to do a factory reset.
Solution: I highly recommend that you do a factory reset since this problem occured right after a software update. Since this is not an option right now then the best thing that you can do is to start your phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This deletes the temporary data stored in your phone that could be corrupt and is causing this problem.
Note 4 Boot Loop Unless Charger Is Plugged
Problem: Since yesterday, 11/10/2015, my Note 4 has begun to shut off and be stuck in a reboot loop that will not allow it to turn on until I plug in the charger. Once the charger is plugged into the phone, the loop will be broken and the phone will turn completely on. It will stay on as long as it is on the charger and for a while after I remove the charger. but eventually it will shut off and get stuck on the loop while booting. I checked your forum and have done a clear cache from safe mode. This did not seem to do anything once I rebooted the phone. although it stayed on the entire time I was working on safe mode. At no time has the problem happened where the battery has been drained. As it happens whether the battery shows 80%, 35%, or 50% life. Thank you for the assistance and hope you are able to help me with this problem.
Solution: The first thing you need to do is to eliminate any software related problems that may be causing this issue. To do this you have to backup your phone data then do a factory reset using the hardware keys.
Once the factory reset is complete observe if the boot loop issue still occurs when the phone is not connected to the charger.
If it still occurs then I suggest you try replacing your battery with a new one.
If the problem persists then this may already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
Note 4 Does Not Turn On Erratic Charging
Problem: i just got a new galaxy note 4. last night it was charged about 85% and just shut off out of nowhere I tried to turn it on and it would start and get to the Samsung logo and jingle and then shut off. then by itself turn back on and then off 2 more times then it stayed off but the light was flashing between blue and teal and I did a factory reset with the same issue result when I tried to turn it on just the little light was on flashing from blue to teal so I tried to plugin the charger and it was at 12% went up to 45% in 30 sec. any thoughts?
Solution: It appears that the phone battery may be defective. Before getting a new battery though I suggest you check if this is a software related issue by backing up our phone data then doing a factory reset. If the problem persists after this then get a new battery.
Note 4 Freezes With Replacement Battery
Problem: I bought a spare battery and every time I use the new battery it works fine for a while, then all of a sudden it goes to a black screen and I can’t do anything to get it to come back up without removing the battery and replacing it. Then it will do the exact same thing once again. Once I remove that battery and replace it with my original battery, it never freezes. I thought it was a battery issue, even though it is the exact model number and make Samsung EB-BN910BBE as my original, so I requested a replacement of the bad battery. I received my new battery, same model number (Samsung) and it does the exact same thing! When I replace it with my original battery, it never locks up! Help!!! I can’t figure this one out!!! Thanks!!!!
Solution: It looks like the store where you got the battery may have a bad batch. If you have a voltage tester you can check the output voltage of the replacement battery you got and compare it with the original phone battery. I suspect that the replacement battery may be providing a lower voltage which is causing the problem.
You should also eliminate any software related problems that may be causing this issue by backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset. Once the factory reset is complete insert the replacement battery then check if the issue still persists.
