Note 4 Turns Off On Its Own

Problem: Greetings Droid guy. I’m here seeking your aid with my Note 4. A while back I got frustrated when my phone died as I thought it had a good 6% battery life and it should have lived on for a while longer. In my frustration, I plugged it in as it was dying. It failed to die however and in a state of slight panic, I removed and replaced the battery. This seemed to fix the issue, but I was still concerned about it. Sure enough the next time it died it showed me a black screen with a couple bars of color as it crashed and died. I charged it up completely and everything seemed fine, aside from the fact that the crash corrupted and erased some of my data (only for a game, nothing too serious). But it crashed a few times after that, one time seeming to erase all that my messenger app had learned and making it incapable of learning again. It has since died normally, except that the notification light tends to stay on unless I remove the battery. So, got any tips for this? Oh, and I’ve been reading about clearing the cache partition, which I managed to do, but it didn’t seem to help.

Solution: It appears that the problem your phone has could be caused by your phone software. You mentioned that you already wiped the cache partition of your phone which is a good preliminary step. Since the issue still remains I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset to eliminate any problem caused by a corrupt software. Once your phone has fully booted up from the factory reset check if the issue still occurs.

Note 4 Does Not Turn On

Problem: I was browsing through my gallery when the device froze. I thought it was just lagging slightly so I gave it a minute to catch up with itself. Nothing changed, none of the hardkeys worked and the screen was unresponsive. I took out the battery and tried to restart it but that was unsuccessful. I plugged it in to the wall charger but the LED didn’t light up and I still can’t turn the device on. Several hours later there’s still no change in behaviour. It won’t turn on, the hard keys aren’t working and the LED still won’t light up. The battery definitely has power, I put it against my tongue and got a tingle!

Solution: Good job in checking the status of the battery! I remembered doing the same thing when checking a 9 volt battery when I was a kid. Regarding the issue of your phone not starting there is a big possibility that it may be due to some software issue. You need to take out the battery first and the microSD (if you have one installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute to discharge your phone circuit and to clear out the RAM. Reinsert the battery but leave out the microSD card then turn on your phone.

If your phone still does not turn on then connect it to a wall charger and let it charge for at least 20 minutes before attempting to turn it on again.

Check if you can wipe the cache partition of your phone.

If all else fails then you should consider doing a factory reset. Just make sure to have a recent backup of your phone data before performing this procedure.

Note 4 Turns Off After 5 Hours Of Non Usage

Problem: About  a week ago after having the phone for more than 3 months it started dying after a full charge in less than 5 hours with no use and is having issues texting. It will try to send every text for a good 10 min then say not sent, everything else still works fine

Solution: If your phone turns off just a couple of hours after a full charge then the most likely cause of this problem is the battery itself. Try getting a new battery and see if the issue still persists.

Regarding the text message sending issue that you are experiencing you should try clearing the cache and data of the messaging app and see if this resolves the problem.

You should also check the status of your network connection as signal related problems can affect the way your phone sends a text message. Check if your phone is getting a good signal reception. Restart your phone to refresh its connection to your carrier then try sending out a text message.

Note 4 Turns Off Without Warning

Problem: Hi there, I’m so glad I came across your site. I have been having some issues with my Samsung Galaxy Note 4. About 3 months ago I had put in a 16g SanDisk micro SD card (class 10 extreme PLUS) my phone hasn’t been the same since. I lost all my snap chat photos/videos I had saved (unable to get them back as well) The phone instantly was having terrible issues with the SD card. And shortly was unable to even stay on with the SD card in. So I had removed it backed up everything and did a factory reset. I got everything how I like it and all and the issue still seems to persist.. It will turn off without any warning. It turns off in my pocket. I’m not sure what to do. I have never once even dropped this phone. I bought it new from Verizon. I have tried cleaning the battery connections, I also replaced the battery and still have the issue.. It would mean the absolute world if you could help me with this as I feel a bit stuck. I’m running the stock current lollipop ROM. Phone was never rooted.  It seems to have a consistent average of turning off 5 times a day..which is very annoying, when it restarts it will display a message saying currently unable to download please try again later and also 2 tiny vibrates.. Not sure what it is! Thankyou so much and I hope so much I get a reply with some assistance!

Solution: Have you checked if the phone turns off while it is placed on top of a table? If it turns off only while it is in your pocket then there’s a possibility that the power button may be pressed accidentally.

Another factor to check is if certain third party apps installed in your phone is causing it to turn off. You need to start your phone in Safe Mode then observe it for a day. Use it normally like you used to do. Take note that you won’t be able to use any third party app or app that you downloaded since they will be disabled. If your phone does not restart then a third party app may be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

One other factor that you should check is the microSD card. If the card is faulty then it could cause this type of issue. Try to take out the microSD card of your phone and see if your phone still restarts.

Since you already performed a factory reset then I suggest having your phone checked at an authorized service center if the problem remains unresolved.

Note 4 Turns Off Randomly

Problem: Hello! I read your article about the Note 4 and how it sometimes shows the no signal icon then reboots, mine had been doing that all day. I hadn’t done anything to cause it but it just started for some reason, it was working fine earlier. I tried safe mode and it still did it now I did the master reset and it is trying to optimize my apps while it upgrades and it restarts before it can finish optimizing them all.

Solution: Does your phone have microSD card installed? If it does then try removing it. Do another round of factory reset using the hardware keys but this time make sure to plug your phone to the wall charger. This way you will be providing power to the phone battery. Once the factory reset has finished then update the apps on your phone. If your phone does not reboot then the problem may be with your phone battery. Try getting a new battery. If however our phone still reboots then this may be a hardware related issue. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.

  1. Hello,

I bought a Unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phone off a person on craigslist. Originally the phone is from Tmobile but i am using it with ATT.

So I went home and did a factory reset on it.

I put in my micro sd card and sim card and starting using it. I downloaded some apps and that’s when it starting doing the freezing and restarting. I then ran the phone on safe mode to see how it would do and It worked really good. I then went back on reg mode and deleted apps and still kept freezing and re booting. I took out the micro sd card yesterday thinking that could be it but phone is still doing the same thing. Sometimes the phone shuts off and doesnt want to start up again so i have to take the battery out for about 15-20 min before it starts working again. I was able to get it started again and i did another factory reset on it without the micro sd card and same issues. The phone got slow again, froze and shut off. Please help me!
