S4 Stopped Charging

Problem: Hello i was reading through your website today looking for a fix to my Mrs phone. Its a Samsung gs4 and it has all of a sudden stopped charging. I have read through all your guides but i can’t find any help for the type of fault we are having. i have a gs4 myself i think it is a great phone. i have done many fixes in the past for other people’s phones and changed over a screen so I’m not a novice with these things. The problem we are having is very strange, it’s as if we aren’t even plugging the cable into the phone. i have switched the battery with the one out of mine and the issue still persists. i have tried the same changer in mine and it works fine, with both of the batteries. it’s the original gs4 charger. i don’t get any error MSG at all on the faulty phone. it just doesn’t seem to detect the cable being inserted at all it the same when i plug it into a PC. i was about to take the phone apart and switch the charge housing from my phone into hers to see if that fixes it but b4 i did all that i thought i would ask you to see if you have heard of this b4 and if you did it may stop me from having to take my phone apart which i don’t want to do really as i have never had any issue with my own gs4 and it would be a shame to open it up just to test something out, but if i really must have to then i will. regards

Solution: You have already eliminated the battery and wall charger as a possible cause of this problem so this may already be a phone hardware issue. Since the phone does not charge and is not even detected by the computer then there’s a possibility that the charging port may have a problem. Going further inside the phone there’s also a possibility that the charging IC may have a problem.

If you are comfortable in taking apart your good S4 and swapping its parts to the defective S4 then you can do it. However, this may introduce a new problem to the good S4 when you return the parts to it which will leave you with two problematic devices.

I suggest that you just bring your phone to an authorized service center and have your device checked.

S4 Turns Off On Its Own

Problem: My phone is powering off when i take screenshots or drop it even if it’s gentle. I do have the otterbox on it always have. When I go to power the phone back on it stops right before it powers on and if I give it a firm tap by the power button it finally comes back on . it has done this before lasted a couple days and stopped now it has been three days and nothing is helping.

Solution: This may already be a hardware related problem possibly caused by some loose connection inside your phone. You should however check if the phone software has anything to do with this issue by backing up your phone data then doing a factory reset.

If the issue persists after the factory reset then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Not Charging Not Turning On

Problem: my galaxy s4 wont charge or turn on.i switched phone off with 42% battery mode just before getting to bed, next morning i tried to switch phone on but all efforts brings no sign of getting it started. please help.

Solution: Try taking out the battery of your phone first. If your phone has a microSD card installed then take it out as well. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges your phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Now try turning on your phone.

Inspect the charging port of your phone and clean it if necessary using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

If your phone still does not turn on then connect it to its wall charger and let it charge for at least 20 minutes before turning it on.

If the problem persists try using a new wall charger ( make sure to use another USB cord) and a new phone battery.

If at this point your phone still does not charge or turn then bring it to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Not Charging

Problem: Hi, I’ve read through numerous forums and I can’t seem find anyone with a resolved solution to this: I have a Galaxy S4 in relatively perfect condition (has never been dropped). The battery charges and holds a charge (tested with a voltmeter and is it ~3.77volts) but there is no indication from the phone that it is charging besides a slight warmth. No LED indication and no screen indication. Attempts over numerous button combinations to reset have been futile so I’m kind of at a loss as to what could be wrong. It was OK one evening and the next morning there was nothing in the way of response from it. Tried a new battery also. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Solution: Have you tried using a different USB cord when charging your phone? This cord gets easily broken especially if it is constantly bent or coiled. You should also try using a different wall charger just in case the one you are using right now has a problem.

Check your phone charging port. Does it have any presence of dirt, debris, or grime? If it does then clean it with a can of compressed air or a cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

Sometimes the software of your phone may also cause this problem. To check if this is the case you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Finally, if all else fails I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Not Charging

Problem: Hello, I just finished reading your article on common problems with an S4 and since you didn’t answer my issue directly I wanted to write and see what you think. I bought my phone from eBay about a month ago and they said it was brand new. While on vacation a week later, I started getting the power sharing popup that tells you to download the app and use the special cable yada yada. I ignored the message and looked up how to get rid of it with no success. I looked for the power sharing app in my application manager and since I never downloaded it, it wasn’t there.  I had bought a charger to go in my luggage and hadn’t used it before but when I plugged my phone in on the 4th day of the trip (first 3 days it worked fine) my phone quit charging. It recognizes that there is a charge. It clicks and has the lightning on the battery but it only decreases in battery charge. I tried different chargers. I tried different batteries and then different chargers but nothing worked. I read that a factory reset could work so I tried that and about an hour after the reset it started charging again. I was so happy! Great it’s fixed, I don’t have to worry. Well, it’s been about three weeks since then and it just did it to me again last night. Everything was fine, I didn’t have any notifications, I didn’t drop it, I used my regular charger and when I plugged it in there was nothing. No charge indicator, nothing.  So I tried another charger and after wiggling it a little, it clicked and acted like it was charging but when I woke up it was close to dying. I performed another factor reset and bam it starts working again about an hour later. So my question is am I going to have to factory reset my phone every three weeks? Is this a software issue? Is there anyway of preventing it from happening again? And how do I get the popup to go away (after each reset they popup like crazy even though I click don’t show again). Thanks for listening

Solution: In most cases such as this it’s usually the charger or the USB cord that is causing the problem. If the charger does not provide the correct output required to charge the phone then your phone won’t charge. If the USB cord is constantly bent or coiled then it may cause the wires inside to be damaged. Try replacing both the wall charger and the USB cord and see if this helps solve the problem.

Check if there are any new software updates available for your phone and install it.

You should also check the charging port of your phone for any signs of dirt or debris. This usually interferes with the charging process. Clean this port if necessary using a can of compressed air or a cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

S4 Does Not Turn On

Problem: Hello. The issue with my S4 is that it wont turn on. its totally malfunctioning. i took out the battery several times and put it back in but every single time as soon as i put my battery in and i haven’t even pressed the power button for it to turn on , the “”samsung galaxy s4″” title comes on the screen. the screen then goes blank and after a few seconds the title appears again followed by the blanking out again and it just keeps happening over and over. i can’t turn it on and even my laptop wont detect it so that i could at least shift my files. when i connect it to the charger the charging icon appears and again the blank screen. comes back and then vanishes again. if i take it off charge it goes back to the samsung s4 title showing and disappearing. please help me out with this , i need to at least turn it on somehow and shift my files and log out of my social media and whatsapp etc.

Solution: Try taking out the battery and the microSD card if your phone has one installed. Press and hold the power button for a minute then reinsert the battery. Try to turn on your phone.

If your phone still does not turn on then try using a new battery.
