Unlike a normal text message there are several requirements that needs to be met by a phone before it is able to send out or receive an MMS. If one of these factors is not met then this may cause the problem.
In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the #Samsung Galaxy #S5 cannot send MMS issue and other related problems.

S5 Cannot Send MMS
Problem: Android version just says 5.0 (no Lollipop, etc., just FYI) I cannot send MMS. I used to be able to, but no more. After a few minutes of trying I get an error message “Network Error Occurred”. When trying to send an MMS I have full service, 4G, and Wifi. I have tried many things; reboot phone, reset to factory settings, different APN settings (from at&t website), different Message default messaging app (Hangout), sending different images. Nothing changes. Please Help, Thanks.
Solution: It looks like you already performed most of the initial troubleshooting steps necessary to resolve this issue. Is your phone able to connect to the Internet using your mobile data connection? If not then this may be the reason why you can’t send an MMS as this requires a cellular data connection.
If your mobile data connection is working fine then try sending an MMS using different network modes as the problem may be isolated in one network mode. The modes to choose from are LTE/ WCDMA/ GSM (auto connect), WCDMA/GSM (auto connect), and WCDMA only.
If you still can’t send an MMS then this may already be an account related issue. I suggest you contact AT&T regarding this matter.
S5 Not Receiving MMS
Problem: I switched my Samsung s5 t-mobile phone to at&t. Everything is working fine under version 4.4 until I upgraded to lollipop. Since then it’s no longer receiving mms. I double checked the apn setting few times and took it to at&t store and they did reboot and reset with no avail. Please help.
Solution: Can your phone send out an MMS? Can your phone connect to the Internet using your mobile data connection? If you answered yes to both these questions then your phone should be able to receive an MMS. Since you are not receiving an MMS then there’s a possibility that an app installed in your phone may be causing the problem. Try to start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the default apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. Send yourself an MMS then check if you can receive it. If you can receive your MMS then an app you installed in your phone may be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If however you also cannot send out an MMS then try to recheck your phone APN settings. I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the factory reset make sure to check the phone APN settings.
S5 Can’t Send Text With Picture Message
Problem: I’m sure it’s a simple fix, but I used to be able to to write captions WITH pictures. I try to send a picture and add text to it, but the phone doesn’t give me the option to do that anymore. It only let’s me send the picture, and then a text separately. I can’t send them toghther anymore. Mobile data is on. I already went and fiddled with the message settings and everything is exactly as it should be. I haven’t changed anything except for this stupid lollipop update. I’ve already soft reset, and actually had to do a full factory reset cause this new system update completely ruined my perfectly fine phone.
Related Problem: I am no longer able to send text along with picture message. Its one or the other only. Do you know anything about this? I went to the Tmobile store and they said it is because of the latest update and there’s nothing they can do about it.
Related Problem: I don’t know exactly when it happened, but when I try to attache a picture to a text message to a specific person, the gallery gives me an option to send the pic, not “”done”” an attach to the message. When I create a new text message without a contact info I am able to select a pic from my gallery and the “done” appears. It allows me to attach a pic to the text message. Otherwise picture is sent without my SMS. I would love to know what happened so i can use the regular pre-installed texting app, not the third party. I am able to attach pics the way it used to be through other texting apps.
Solution: A recent update to the RCS(Advanced Messaging) is causing this type of issue when using the stock messaging app. One way to resolve this problem is to turn off VoLTE which in turn turns off RCS. Try sending an MMS with text and pictures and it should be working right now.
S5 Not Downloading MMS
Problem: Hello The Droid Guy: I can only hope that you can help me. I just purchased and unlocked AT&T Galaxy S5. My cell service is provided by Consumer Cellular. The setting Consumer Cellular provided didn’t work for data outside of my home wi-fi. The company I purchased the phone from, Devices-Now provided me with the correct setting and everything appeared to work fine until I started receiving messages from my family who all user iPhones. I’m just a retired novice android user and have been very happy in that little world. My Problem: When and if the message comes in, all I see is a box indicating to download, but nothing every happens when you select download. Sometimes you can see the message, but most of the time it is a box going nowhere. In neither case can you ever respond. It just clocks indicating it is sending, but nothing ever happens. I know this is likely an issue with the APN settings, but to date no one, even Consumer Cellular can solve the problem. I have a really hard time believing that the Galaxy S5, as new as it is, cannot handle group text messages from iPhone users. Here are my current APN settings:

ANY help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I’m now stuck with this phone, but would certainly like to be able to read/respond to my out of town family iPhone group text messages. Thanks you in advance for your reply.
Solution: Try sending yourself an MMS to check if your phone can receive it. If it can then the issue may be the iPhone users are sending a group message using iMessage. Have them delete the group conversation thread then have them send an MMS using text message. If they send the message and it is in a green bubble then the message is sent as a text message which is what we want. If the message is in a blue text bubble then it is sent as an iMessage which is not what we want.
S5 Won’t Send MMS
Problem: My galaxy s5 wont send mms at all and it converts long messages into mms and then I am unable to send them, the phone is verizon but I have t-mobile and think it’s unlocked. How do I fix this problem so I can send pictures and receive them.
Solution: Try checking your phone APN settings and make sure it is the one T-Mobile is using. If necessary make the required changes. You should also have an active mobile data subscription and turn on the mobile data switch of your phone for you to be able to send or receive an MMS.
