As expected, Verizon and Motorola this morning introduced two new Droid models, being the Droid Turbo 2 and the Droid Maxx 2. These devices will launch on October 29th and will cost $629 and $384 respectively.
First up is the Droid Turbo 2. This is the flagship model of the new Droid models, and its specs are very up to par. It has a 5.4″ POLED QHD display running on top of a Snapdragon 810 processor, 3 GB of RAM, and Android 5.1 . The battery is 3,760 mAh in size and is able to be wirelessly over Qi and fast-charged.
The Turbo 2 also has a 21MP rear-facing camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. You will be able to store that on either the 32 GB model or the Moto Maker exclusive model of 64 GB, which you can expand with microSD on both GB models.
The most impressive feature about the Turbo 2 is Motorola’s new ShatterShield tech protecting the display from being shattered when dropped. According to Verizon:
“The display and embedded lens are warranted against shattering and cracking for four (4) years from the original date of purchase.” So if you crack or shatter the device within having the device for four years, you can get that replaced.
Some special Moto Maker privileges are also included if you buy the device before December 31st, 2015. You will be able to register the device through Moto Maker for a “Design Refresh” option, allowing you to customize another device within two years after purchase.
The other device announced today is the Droid Maxx 2. This device has a 5.5″ 1080p display running on top of a Snapdragon 615 processor, 2 GB of RAM, Android 5.1, and a 3,630mAh battery. The device comes with 16 GB of storage built-in that is expandable with a microSD card.
If those specs sound familiar, it’s because the Droid Maxx 2 is basically a US variant of the Moto X Play exclusive to Verizon. It’s still a very good device, especially at its lower price.
Speaking of prices, here is the breakdown of prices for both models:
- Droid Turbo 2 – 32 GB: $26/month for 24 months ($624 retail price)
- Droid Turbo 2 – 64 GB: $30/month for 24 months ($720 retail price)
- Droid Maxx 2: $16 per month for 24 months ($384 retail price)
So if you want one of these new phones, they will become available on October 29th, this Thursday. Will you be buying either of these phones?
