The phone is having issues receiving messages, and sending them at times for the last 6 days.
I wake up in the morning, and find I have zero text messages. As soon as I call out on the network, even to my voicemail box, the phone then receives any and all texts it had been sent since the last time it connected to the network. When the phone receives these texts it has the correct date and time of when that person had actually sent the text to me.
But it also will randomly receive text messages at random times when I don’t connect it to the network, and again they are time stamped correctly even though received hours late. There are times also when I can’t send messages out, it will say “message failed” and stays grey until I resend it again.
I went into Telus and had a new SIM card put in the phone, same problem. I then did a factory reset on the phone, then restored, same problem. I got mad, and called my extended warranty and they sent me a brand new S6. Restored everything onto it, and it too has the same problem! I’ve deleted my entire text log thinking maybe something was stuck, and still, it’s having issues receiving them in.
So that’s where I’m at with all of this. Hopefully you guys have knowledge. — MattL
Solution: Hi MattL. It’s interesting to know that the problem persists across two different S6s. Any SMS problem that occurs on at least two devices can either be due to a faulty app, or a network glitch. Your first task then is to identify which of these two is the reason. If you load the same set of apps to your new S6, try to narrow down the issue further by booting in safe mode. This will prevent third party apps from running. If any of the third party apps is to blame, the issue will not occur in safe mode. If you haven’t tried booting in safe mode before, simply follow these steps:
- Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 20 to 30 seconds.
- Once you see the Samsung logo, release the Power key immediately but continue pressing the Volume Down key.
- Your phone should continue booting up and you will be prompted to unlock your phone as usual.
- You will know if the phone successfully booted in safe mode if the text “Safe mode” is displayed at the lower-left corner of the screen.
If our hunch is right, you should start uninstalling your apps one by one until you have eliminated the issue.
Alternatively, you can also do another round of factory reset and observe the phone for some time before installing any app. With a clean firmware and no third party apps installed, you will know if the issue is due to a problem app or not. If the SMS and calls work normally, start installing your apps. This route can be time-consuming as you will need to observe how the phone behaves after installing every single app. If you have plenty of apps to install, consider installing only the trusted ones first and observe. Do the same cycle until you are satisfied.
If the problem continues even after a factory reset (and without any additional apps installed) the issue is network-related. Talk to your carrier for direct assistance.
The other day, while deleting a text message conversation, I received another message from that person. The notification of the message came in, but the message was never actually delivered because I deleted the conversation in the same instant.
Now I have the notification of the text message that shows up repeatedly even after I have dismissed it, and there is a permanent counter on the Messages app of an unread message.
I’ve tried restarting my device, receiving another text from that person … I can’t seem to get the message to leave its limbo state. I’m concerned that if I do a factory reset, I’ll either lose all of my data (since I haven’t done a backup since 8/8/15), or if I DO do a backup manually now, the text message in limbo will be part of that saved data, and when I restore, it’ll recreate the issue. I’m not sure about this, though.
In the grand scheme of things, it’s a minor problem, but it is incredibly annoying.

Solution: Hi Cindy. You can skip factory reset in this situation by wiping the cache and data of the messaging app you are using. Here’s how:
- Go to Settings.
- Proceed to Applications.
- Select Manage Applications.
- Tap the All tab.
- Choose the name of the Messaging app and tap it.
- From there, you will see the Clear Cache and Clear Data button.
Wiping your messaging app’s data will wipe your text messages so make sure to back them up before proceeding if you wish to keep them.
Sometimes, deleting the system cache also helps if the issue involves apps. You can do so by doing these steps:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
- When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
- When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
- Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
- Press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
I purchased the S6 a few months back and it was fine then, until the most recent software update came out. I installed it and now I never seem to receive text messages on time from other Android users.
It’s not the SIM card. I’ve had it replaced twice already.
I’ve returned the phone back to its factory settings and again the exact same problem has occurred.
What else could it be if it’s not the SIM card? — Michelle
Solution: Hi Michelle. If your SMS appears to be arriving late than usual, you should talk to your carrier about it. This is not a phone issue. A device merely receives what is being “pushed” by your network’s Message Center, where text messages are being processed and sent to the recipients.
Delays in text messages can also be due to network problems like outages or on-going maintenance.
Hello 🙂 (I’m French). My problem is that my S6 receive SMS like 30 min later and sometimes I can’t receive any call. Sorry for my bad English and hope you understand what I’m try to say!

Hi. I am having 2 issues with this device. This phone is new and unlocked from the Verizon network and I am using with T-Mobile.
Regular texts send and receive normally. When sending a picture text, it stays with the circle as if it is sending but does not send. Also the S6 will not receive picture texts. I suspect there is an APN setting that needs to be changed but not sure and have not found any useful advice online or from T-Mobile.
The second issue occurs when dialing. If you call a 1-800 number, you will always be prompted to enter a barrage of options. However, this device will successfully make the call, but when you press the button to select a prompt, it does not register. The number I have selected shows on the screen but the automated system does not recognize it. I have tried at different times of the day and different 1-800 numbers. It does not appear to be a fault on the other end. Is there some silly option that has been enabled? — Nev
Solution: Hi Nev. Make sure that your APN settings are correct. You’re supposed to call T-Mobile for the correct APN settings but for reference, you can use the values below to reconfigure it.

Make sure to tap Save to keep the settings.
If you continue to experience the same trouble sending and receiving MMS, contact T-Mobile and confirm with them if your APN settings are correct.
For your second issue, please follow these steps:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Applications.
- Tap phone.
- Tap DTMF tones.
- Select Long.
I have big issues sending and receiving group texts. When I first got the phone there was no issue. In the past 2 weeks the problems began.
I was using the Verizon Messages as default. When receiving a group text, I would be notified in the person’s individual non-group text that I had a message that had not downloaded, but when I clicked on it to download, it never would. And I could not view the message at all. Then I would sporadically get a few messages in the main group text screen throughout the day, while away after real time texting had ended.
I then switched to trying Hangouts, as online I read it supported group texting better. It did not. Now not only did I get the same downloading issue, but my replies to the group texts were delivered to a one on one private conversation to every other person in the original group. I switched back to the Verizon Messages today, and all of a sudden ALL the missed “not downloaded” texts popped up in the group screen. But, in any new “real time” group convos it still gives me the downloading message, and delivers any of my replies separately to individual convos. I don’t understand! I’ve been looking online for help, but haven’t found something that works. Please help! Thank you. — Liz
Solution: Hi Liz. Group messaging is great when it’s working but can get really frustrating when it suffers hiccups. Most group messaging apps works only when your phone is connected to the internet (either through mobile data or Wi-Fi). If you’re internet connection is unstable while trying to use group messaging, it may result to the problem you are experiencing. Make sure to keep a reliable internet connection all the time when doing group messaging.
It must be noted too that in order to work, the rest of your friends must use the same app. For example, if you started using Hangouts after Verizon Messages failed, your friends must also have Hangouts on their device. Your message may still be transmitted by your network to your friends’ devices (this is network specific) but only in the form of individual text messages. Some carriers will automatically convert a group message into regular text if you lose internet connection while sending.
