First thank you very much. I am having 3 issues with my new phone and the first 2 are already solved with information already posted. My third issue is I cannot sync my contacts with Facebook. I have brought the phone in and they have no idea either. Under Settings>Accounts>Facebook>Sync Contacts is turned on. On the Facebook application I got to Setting>App Settings there should be an option to sync contacts and there is not. Have you seen this issue on the Note 5. I really want my contacts and photos from Facebook to sync. My laggy texting and issues with internet connectivity I tried to fix. My phone is only 5 days old. I was not expecting this many issues off the bat. — Tania
Solution: Hi Tania. To sync your Facebook contact, just do these steps:
- Open Contacts app.
- Tap More/settings.
- Tap the contacts that you want use and displayed.
When I click on a link (e.g. in email or Facebook), it asks which app to use – chrome or the default browser. After selecting Chrome, it should automatically saved as a default option but it doesn’t. I’m being asked each and every time I click on a link. Checked into settings, qpp managers, defaults and there were a bunch of apps listed that I had selected as default but chrome is not there. Tried clearing defaults for the default internet browser but it doesn’t work. Please help! — Rachel
Solution: Hi Rachel. This issue occurs if you have a habit of deleting a phone’s system cache, or if you are using an app that clears cache in order to work. The option to set a certain app as default is saved as a temporary file in the cache partition. Once you erase the cache, or if an app does so, you are virtually deleting the reminder for the system what app to use when confronted with the same task, such as opening a web page after clicking on a link.
Battery optimizers, RAM or memory cleaners, and similar apps delete the cache as part of their function so if you want your phone to “remember” your default settings, simply uninstall relevant apps.
Hello. I am having issues with my son’s Samsung Galaxy Note 5. We have Straight Talk service and have never had any issues until now. Everytime you swipe or turn it on we get an error screen pop-up that says “Unfortunately Google Search has stopped”. When you hit “ok” it goes away, and you can get one swipe. Then the error message comes back on again. My son uses his Google account for school for Google Doc’s for homework. I took it in for repair & the guy did a factory restore. It worked for about 2 hours, until he went to Google again. Any suggestions? — Tana
Solution: Hi Tana. Below are the things you can try to fix the issue:
Troubleshoot Google Services Framework app
Since the error points to Google Search app, the most likely culprit is Google Services Framework. This app is an important link between the other Google apps in your phone and their associated remote servers. If Google Services Framework glitches, it can cause all sorts of issues. Troubleshooting this app first is a must. Just like any other app, you want to delete it’s cache and data. Here’s how:
- Go to Settings.
- Proceed to Applications.
- Select Manage Applications.
- Tap the All tab.
- Look for Google Services Framework app and tap it.
- From there, you will see the Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons.
This same procedure can be performed for Google Search app. If wiping cache and data won’t make any difference, you can also tap on Force Close and Disable buttons.
Erase the system cache
This procedure involves deleting the system cache, which is a different type of cache from an app cache. Android users are encouraged to do this task regularly as part of maintenance and if there’s a perceived slow performance issue. It may also help resolve some app issues so it’s worth doing in your case. Simply follow these steps:
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy Note 5 completely.
- Press and hold the Volume Up and the Home buttons first, and then press and hold the Power key.
- Keep the three buttons pressed and when ‘Samsung Galaxy Note5’ shows, release the Power key but continue holding the other two.
- Once the Android logo shows, release both the Volume Up and Home buttons.
- The notice ‘Installing system update’ will show on the screen for 30 to 60 seconds before the Android system recovery screen is shown with its options.
- Use the Volume Down key to highlight the option ‘wipe cache partition’ and press the Power key to select it.
- When the process is complete, use the Volume Down key to highlight the option ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
- The reboot may take a little longer to complete but don’t worry and wait for the device to become active.
Run the phone in Safe mode
A third party app can sometimes alter the behavior of other apps. If you don’t recall installing an app or downloading any file to your son’s device prior to noticing the problem, booting in safe mode may help you verify if our hunch is correct. When in safe mode, your phone prevents third party applications from running. We recommend that you let the phone run in safe mode for a couple of days to observe if the issue recurs. If you cannot replicate the problem while in this mode, that’s an indication of a problem third party app. Here are steps how to boot your Note 5 in safe mode:
- Turn off the phone completely.
- Press and hold the Power key.
- Once ‘Samsung Galaxy Note5’ shows, release the Power key and immediately press and hold the Volume Down button.
- The phone will restart but keep the Volume Down button pressed.
- Once the phone has finished restarting, ‘Safe mode’ will be display in the lower-left corner of the screen.
- You may now release the Volume Down button.
If you want to get to the bottom of the problem though, you must uninstall apps that you think may be the reason for the trouble. There’s no other way to pinpoint which app is the main reason so you must remove apps until the issue has been eliminated.
Since yesterday I have been having trouble with the contacts app of my Note 5. Yesterday, when a known contact called, his name was not shown on the screen, only his phone number. Today I noticed that my contacts list did not load. It was basically empty and doing nothing, then it showed a list of contacts, all name Unknown, then I got the message “Contacts application not responding. Close?”
The Bluetooth system in my car does pick up the list, so the contact information is there somewhere, I just can’t interface with it on my phone. My contacts do show up on the What’s App contact list. I have tried rebooting the phone both with the button and by removing the battery. Nothing seems to help. Can you help?

Solution: Hi Heather. The issue may be isolated to the Contacts app only so make sure you clear its cache and data (steps provided above). Try to see if you can create a backup of all your contacts before tapping the Clear Data button to avoid losing unsaved contacts. You can install Kies on your computer and use it to save your contacts. That way, you can easily re-sync your contacts after clearing the app cache and data.
Hello I have a Samsung Note 5. Google Play apps pause while downloading and or installing either when the cover is closed or when the device goes to sleep but resumes when the either the case is opened or the device is turned on. Wi-Fi is set to stay awake. I’ve tried a factory reset, I’ve updated from Android 5.0.1 to 5.1.1, I’ve cleared Google Play cache… and still the problem exists but not sure why… driving me mad.
Any ideas? This is particularly a pain when there are a lot of apps to update, as the handset has to be constantly in use until they complete. Oh Google Play auto-update is also hit and miss. — Matthew
Solution: Hi Matthew. It looks like the proximity sensor trips internet connectivity on the phone every time you close the cover. We haven’t heard of this issue on other devices so this may be unique to your phone. Your best course of action in this case is to call Samsung for support or go to their shop so they can take a look at the hardware in question.
You can also visit Google Play Store and see if you can install a third party app that can temporarily disable the proximity sensor. This may be a good remedy if you don’t to have the hardware checked in the near future, or when installing apps.
Hi. I am having a problem when I want to open my Play Store to download any new application. It showed blank screen and take very long time to show all the previous apps that I have downloaded before. It was very lagging. I can’t even view all the apps that I downloaded before.
Before this problem, I was just transferred my photos from my laptop to my Samsung Note 5. After that, i realized that Picasa album was installed into my Gallery. I did managed to remove the Picasa album from my Gallery after did some setting. — Janice
Solution: Hi Janice. You can try the four options under the app’s troubleshooting menu — Force Close, Disable/Uninstall Updates, Clear Cache, Clear Data (steps provided above).
