S4 Not Receiving Text Message
Problem: My wife and I have had our phones for 1-2 years without issue. About a week ago my Samsung S4 (dual band) stopped receiving texts from my wife’s iPhone 6. Have been to the Sprint store three times to no avail. What is interesting is that she can send me a picture with text and I do receive that, but can’t receive a simple text without a picture. Any explanation come to mind?
Solution: Since you can receive a picture message from your wife then we can rule out the number being blocked. Is your phone not receiving text messages only from your wife’s phone or from other phones as well? Try to check in this first. If you are not receiving a text message from your wife only then have her try to delete your text messaging thread on her phone and have her send a new message to you. Make sure that she is sending a text message and not an iMessage ( an iMessage will be in a blue bubble while an SMS will be in a green bubble).
You should also check if a certain app installed in your phone is preventing you from receiving your wife’s text message. To do this you should start your phone in Safe Mode. Have your wife send you a text message. If you can receive the message then an app installed in your phone may be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
It is also important to check if the problem does not occur when your phone is set to another network mode. The network modes to choose from are LTE/GSM/WCDMA (auto connect), GSM/WCDMA (auto connect), GSM only or WCDMA only.
S4 Not Sending Text Message
Problem: I brought my Verizon s4 over to Ting yesterday. All seems to work well besides sending texts and voicemail. I’ve been in contact with Ting, they nor Tmobile ( Ting hooks up to their network) can find an issue. I’ve played around with the APN and network settings, nothing seems to help. I wanted to look into the message center number but I am unable to find where the number is located, I don’t have a message center option in my messenger settings. I did a hard reset which finally got my phone to say tmobile rather than Verizon, but still no luck sending out texts. I am able to receive texts as well as mms. Any help would be much appreciated, not looking forward to having to purchase a new device!
Solution: If your phone can receive a text message but not send one out then chances are your phone is not using the message center number of your carrier. Unfortunately you mentioned that the message center number option is not available in your device. This is usually the case for a Verizon branded S4 as the carrier has locked this setting or has not included it in the phone firmware.
To resolve this issue you can try to check if there are any new software updates available for your phone. Connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer running on Kies. If an update is available then you will be prompted of it. This update may allows you to access the message center number setting.
Another way to resolve this issue which works for those who are also experiencing this very same issue is to reflash the phone software with a version that allows the message center number to be set. This however requires that you have experience in flashing an Android device so that you can do it properly. If you are interested in this method then you should check some of the popular Android forums online that have an extensive guide on this procedure.
S4 Not Receiving Text Messages
Problem: Thursday I could no longer receive texts. I tried everything but a hard reset. I can send texts but no one can return them. I recently tried another texting program and it told me to verify my data is on.Facebook and everything else works fine.
Solution: First, make sure that your account does not have any issue in sending or receiving a text message by confirming this with your carrier. Once this has been cleared you can then start troubleshooting your phone.
You should try to check first if an app you installed is causing this problem by starting your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while those apps that you downloaded and installed are disabled. If the issue does not occur in Safe Mode then there is a possibility that it is caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. You should start with the app that you installed before the problem occurred.
In some cases it is the messaging app that is causing this problem. You should try to clear the cache and data of the messaging app from the Application Manager. You should also follow this up by wiping the cache partition of your phone. If the problem persists then try using Hangouts or download a third party messaging app from the Google Play Store.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the issue then you should consider doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this procedure.
S4 Not Sending Text Message
Problem: Hi, I got a verizon s4 unlocked from Craigslist and am using it on t-mobile network. All works except that I cannot send just text messages. I can receive them. I can send mms. Also when am on a call and they ask me to press 1 for some option, I press it but it doesn’t work. The other options work fine but just that 1 doesn’t work. Am running lollipop. I have tried to downgrade to kitkat hoping that would solve my problems but was not successful. Maybe I did something wrong. Also I noticed that the call center is non existent at least from the settings of the messages. I called my carrier and they asked me to look for it under message settings but I couldn’t find it. Can you help me out? Thanks
Solution: This is one of the most common problems for a Verizon S4 that is to be used on a different network. The cause of this problem is that your phone’s message center number may still be set to the one Verizon is using or may not be present at all. This message center number is needed for you to be able to send a text message. Verizon has been not to exclude this setting in their phone firmware.
The best way to resolve this is to reflash your phone with a different stock software version that allows you to edit the message center number. You will need a file copy of the stock firmware version for your device ( make sure it isn’t a Verizon firmware) as well as a software called Odin installed in your computer. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.
S4 Not Receiving Text Messages
Problem: Good evening, My husband and I found your page talking about being able to send texts but not receive them. I have a Samsung GALAXY S4 and updated Tuesday. Thursday afternoon I could no longer receive texts. We tried everything we have found other than a hard reset (I rely heavily on my calendar and alarms – would be lost without them and other important information). I gave up on the stock text program and attempted to use the AT&T messages. It won’t even complete set up. It says to verify my data is turned on. I’d really like to use the stock text app the phone came with! Any help (other than a hard reset) is much appreciated! Thank-you for your time!
Solution: The first thing you should do is to verify if this problem is not caused by a network issue. Contact your carrier and inquire regarding this. You should also have them check your account for any issues that may be present that’s causing this issue.
Try to check if this issue is caused by the stock messaging app by using Hangouts or a third party text messaging app downloaded from the Google Play Store. If Hangouts allows you to send a text message then the issue may be with your stock messaging app. Have you tried clearing the cache and data of the app?
You should also try to start your phone in Safe Mode to determine if a third party app is causing the problem. If you can receive a text message in Safe Mode then an app may be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
As a last troubleshooting step you should consider doing a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before proceeding.
