Sony Xperia Z5 Premium officially unveiled as the world’s first 4K display phone

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium

With #Sony holding its pre-IFA 2015 event today, the company managed to unveil the #XperiaZ5, #XperiaZ5Compact as well as the #XperiaZ5Premium today. The third model will make the news a lot more compared to the other two variants given the 4K display running on board the device. Not surprisingly, this is the first handset in the mobile industry to have a 4K resolution display panel. This is slightly ironic as Sony was one of the last major manufacturers to embrace 2K or Quad HD displays, but has managed to leave that behind with this new smartphone.

All three handsets look quite identical in terms of appearance, but the Xperia Z5 Premium is the largest of the lot and comes with a 5.5 inch display underneath. The resolution of 3840 x 2160 roughly translates to 806 pixels per inch, which is an overkill any way you look at it.

The handset is also packing the octa core Snapdragon 810 SoC, a 23-megapixel rear camera, a 5.1-megapixel selfie camera, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage (expandable by up to 200GB), Android 5.1 Lollipop and a 3,430 mAh battery. The Xperia Z5 Premium also comes with IP68 certification and is water/dust resistant, essentially making it one of the best feature packed devices in the market today. There’s a fingerprint scanner embedded underneath the power button on the side, just as the rumors had revealed.

The handset will be available for purchase in November and Sony will only give out pricing related details then. Check out what the 4K display on the Xperia Z5 Premium is capable of from the video below.
