The boom in the smartphone industry has further solidified the text messaging as one of the primary forms of communication. The #Samsung Galaxy #S5 is one such phone that takes full advantage of the text messaging service. Not only can a person send a text with the device but they can also insert photos, voice clips and even videos on the message then send it to one or more of their friends.
There are however cases where the #GalaxyS5 has an issue with text messaging. In this latest installment of the troubleshooting series we will tackle the S5 not sending text messages and other related issues.

S5 Not Sending Text Message
Problem: My phone says unable to send text. I put it in airplane mode and back out of airplane and it works. Any help would be amazing.
Solution: If the problem goes away if you enable and disable the airplane mode of your phone then this problem may be caused by a software glitch.
The first thing you should do is to clear the messaging app of any corrupt cached data. Go to the App Manager and find the stock messaging app then delete its cache and data. Check if the issue still persists.
If you are still experiencing the same problem then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone.
Sometimes a third party app you installed in your phone could also be the cause of this problem. Check if this is the case by starting your phone in Safe Mode. Once your phone is in Safe Mode check if the issue still persists. If it doesn’t then there’s a possibility that it may be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the problem appears even in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S5 Not Sending Text Message To Particular Number
Problem: i live in New Jersey and have T-Mobile. My fiance lives in Philadelphia, has an Iphone 5 and has AT&T. His text message is the only one that takes forever to load, send and receive. If i’m typing and he sends a message, the application decides to freeze, hide the keyboard, load… load…. load… then restore the keyboard, then load… load… then finally it allows me to type a message and/or finish my message. Sometimes it’ll give me the added annoyance of failing to send my message at all. or rather it says it failed to send, but then he will respond as if he read the text. Very odd. I’m just wondering if this happens to anyone else – the freezing of the message app when incoming messages are received.
Solution: If the issue occurs for only one number then the problem may be with the message thread. You should backup your phone text messages using Kies then first delete the text message thread between you and your boyfriend as this may contain some corrupt data that is causing the problem. If possible have your boyfriend als delete the text message thread on his phone ( make sure to inform him to backup his text messages first using iTunes). One the text message thread has been deleted on both devices try sending him a text message.
If the problem persists then clear the cache and data of your messaging app. You should also follow this up by wiping the cache partition of your phone.
S5 Not Downloading Picture Message
Problem: I have an S5 Active with AT&T. Prior to this phone, I had an iPhone. I can sometimes get text messages of pictures but most often I cannot. When I receive a text message of a picture, I get an entry that gives me the choice to download. When I click download it says downloading and then eventually fails. I’ve been told this is a common issue but I do not know how to fix it. Any help is appreciated.
Solution: There are three things you need to check in this case. First, you should have an active mobile data subscription. Second. you should turn on the mobile data switch of your phone and make sure your phone has a data signal. Third, your phone should have the correct APN settings that matches the one your carrier is using.
S5 Not Sending Text Message To Special Numbers
Problem: I use my phone to get mobile coupons from stores. For the past few weeks, every time I text target (827438) for moible coupon, it’s always comes back with “failed,” the message will not go through. It’s never been a problem before and now it is. Even when I get text messages from a business that says reply yes or no, those types of messages will not go through either. Regular text messages to my contacts are fine. I’ve called att and they haven’t been able to help either.
Solution: This could be an issue with the setting of the permissions of your messaging app. Find the messaging app on the phone’s Application Manager. Look for the permissions section then go to the Send premium SMS field. It could be set to Never allow. Change this to Ask or Always allow.
S5 Uninstalling System Messaging Apps
Problem: I had the Message system that came with the phone. I installed hangouts, but data has to be on for it to work if not connected to wifi. The AT&T Messages does the same thing. I haven’t figured out how to get back to the one that came with the phone. When I hit uninstall with AT&T and hangouts I get Do you want to uninstall all updates to this Android system app. I want to get rid of both of the completely. Please help.
Solution: Both the AT&T Messages and Hangouts app are pre-installed apps in your phone that can’t be deleted or uninstalled the normal way. You will have to root your phone and install a custom firmware if you would like to remove both apps which I don’t recommend at this point.
If you have a problem using both apps then I suggest just using the stock messaging app of your phone.
