OnePlus promises action against those who try to jump the invite list

OnePlus 2

Earlier today, we came across a report which spoke of a user successfully manipulating the invite list for the OnePlus 2 by creating several fake email accounts and signing up for the smartphone using his referral code. The company has now promised to take strict action against users who try such shortcuts to get themselves ahead of the thousands of users in the waiting list.

The company is not fully doing away with the referral system though, so you can still get yourself up in the list if you refer a handful of users. But OnePlus will have an algorithm in place which will automatically detect if the user’s referral link/code has been used too many times, thus successfully detecting foul play.

The list for the OnePlus 2 is about 1.8 million fans long at this moment, so you will have to wait for a while before your turn arrives. The only way to get your hands on the device quicker is to get an invitation from an existing user. But even that’s a long shot considering that the OnePlus 2 isn’t widely available right now.
