It’s customary for devices to go through the FCC before their imminent arrival in the markets. Amazon’s upcoming #FireTablet has received similar treatment as the device has just been spotted on the certification site. To our surprise, the listing has revealed that the tablet will also feature a microSD card slot to expand the internal storage, which is quickly becoming a rarity in the current crop of devices.
Interestingly, Amazon’s older devices did not support microSD cards, so this seems like a decision forced onto Amazon by the budget tablets that are currently crowding the mobile industry. The Amazon Fire Tablet range is available in multiple size variants and price points, so we won’t be surprised if Amazon sticks to using this only with its entry level model.
The company is yet to offer word on the release of the new gen Fire Tablets, but given that they are already knocking on the FCC’s doorsteps, we don’t think the release should be far off.
