Update to WhatsApp Messenger officially brings ‘Mark as unread’ and improved notifications

WhatsApp Messenger on Android is today getting the much anticipated ‘Mark as unread‘ feature, along with the ability to handle notifications better. Focusing more on the notifications aspect, WhatsApp now allows users to assign a ringtone for a specific contact or groups(s). This is a feature that the users will welcome.

In addition to the aforementioned changes, WhatsApp also allows users to select a low data consumption option in the Settings which will take up less data while making voice calls. So one can say that WhatsApp has been very busy this week with this new series of updates that have been added to the app.

Strangely, the update isn’t live on the Google Play Store yet, but the folks over at Android Police have managed to upload an apk file to APK mirror, so make sure you download the file manually on your device. Installing this file will replace the old WhatsApp, just like an update would, so there’s no need for worry.
