Sony clarifies that it will “never ever sell” its mobile business

The CEO of Sony has mentioned in an interview that any reports of the company’s mobile division shutting or closing down are inaccurate. The chairman and president of the company,¬†Hiroki Totoki said – “we will never ever sell or exit from the current mobile business,” which is as clear as a statement can get.

The CEO also expressed optimism that the company would turn itself around in the next year with new devices said to be in the pipeline. He didn’t clarify as to which devices will break cover, however. He further mentioned that 2015 will be the “year of big transformation” for the company.

It will be interesting to see if the company will be able to live up to these expectations, especially given the competition it faces in the mobile industry today. Some have blamed the company’s relative absence from the midrange market for the poor sales, so perhaps Sony could help with a couple of peppy midrange offerings that could attract customers in developing regions.
