Although Rovio is popular for Angry Birds, it soon branched out to other segments with games like Bad Piggies, Amazing Alex, Retry and more recently with Angry Birds Fight. The Finnish developer team has now decided to go back to its roots and release a second iteration of the game that brought them to fame.
This new Angry Birds 2 game will hit Android starting July 30 and will be available on all other major mobile platforms. Here’s what the company had to say in its announcement today:
“With 3 billion game downloads, millions of fans across the globe, multiple mashups and spin-offs, collaborations with A-list celebrities and much more, we’re really proud that Angry Birds is the mother of all mobile game apps. And now we’re proud to announce the mother of all sequels – Angry Birds 2! …Angry Birds 2 flocks into app stores worldwide on July 30. Get ready to fall in love again!”
Naturally, the game will be free to download but will come with in-app purchases to help with progression. This has been Rovio’s only source of revenue with games as the paid game model hasn’t worked out all that well for the developers. We’ll be curiously waiting to see how the game fares when it officially hits the Play Store on the 30th of July.
