NVIDIA Shield Portable getting updated to Android 5.1

NVIDIA Shield Portable

When announced a couple of years ago, the NVIDIA Shield Portable was one of the most unique Android devices to hit the market. Fast forward two years and it’s still one of the best handheld Android consoles you can find in the market. This device from NVIDIA is now the recipient of Android 5.1 Lollipop, while the Shield Tablet received the update very recently as well.

The update also brings a new version of Twitch, while adding Chromecast support as well. Understandably, NVIDIA has removed support for Miracast with this new update. Games like Sonic 4: Episode II and Expendable: Rearmed have also been removed from the Shield Portable, as they’re no longer available and supported by the developers.

If you’re not seeing the OTA notification hitting your device yet, heading over to the Settings – About Device page might help you pull the update manually. As always, if you have received the update already, make sure you let us know in the comments section below.
