Xiaomi ranked No. 2 among wearable shipments in Q1 2015

Xiaomi Mi Band

Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has featured on IDC’s list of top wearable vendors in the first quarter of the year. We must reiterate that this only takes fitness wearables into account and not smartwatches in general, which explains why the likes of Pebble, Motorola, LG are missing from the list.

The list suggests that Fitbit shipped the most wearables with a marketshare of 34.2% compared to Xiaomi’s 24.6%. Interestingly, this is Xiaomi’s first year with wearables as the chart perfectly illustrates. On the other hand, Fitbit also saw a rapid 129.4% year-over-year (YoY) increase, which perfectly illustrates the growing popularity of the wearables and fitness bands segment.

Although Xiaomi’s Mi Band was limited to the Asian markets initially, it is slowly expanding to Europe and the U.S. as well. With an asking price of just $15, we expect the marketshare to get a significant boost later this year. Xiaomi is currently operating in the EU and North America through its official mi.com website.
