A new report indicates that ASUS is keen on acquiring fellow Taiwanese manufacturer HTC following its torrid time in the mobile industry. It’s not clear at this point if the two companies have formally talked it over, but the CFO of ASUS has mentioned that the top brass is contemplating a purchase of the company.
The CFO reiterates that talk has only gone through internally, so nothing is known about the company’s willingness to speak about this in the open. This means that we can brush this aside as a speculation at this point. ASUS is one of the top PC OEMs in the world today and the acquisition of HTC will go a long way in boosting its mobile business.
Recent reports have mentioned that ASUS is doing exceedingly well in the mobile industry by shipping nearly 1.5 million smartphones in May alone. The acquisition could also spark a new life for HTC, which is having a horrendous 2015 so far, especially after the launch of the One M9 flagship.
