Android 5.0.2 update said to be bricking some Nexus 9 tablets

Nexus 9

Google announced the roll out of the Android 5.1 update for the Nexus 9 tablets earlier today, much to the rejoice of the customers. But the tablets are also receiving an update to Android 5.0.2 before the big jump to Android 5.1. Users who received the 5.0.2 update are now said to be facing boot looping issues, meaning that they cannot get past the boot screen.

There are several users complaining about this on the Google Product Forums and the first suggestion from one of the company employees was to perform a factory reset in recovery mode. But when some users realized that even that doesn’t work, manually flashing the factory image containing the update seemed to have done the trick.

Google hasn’t come up with a proper explanation as of now, so it’s a little confusing as to what might have caused this. But expect the company to issue a fresh update once this has been fixed. This might further delay the rollout of Android 5.1, so it’s looking pretty gloomy for the customers of the Nexus 9.
