Motorola testing Android 5.1 update for the first gen Moto X

Moto X Developer Edition

Motorola is said to be currently testing the Android 5.1 update for the first gen Moto X which was launched a couple of years ago. This shows the company’s commitment to have the latest version of Android running on a relatively dated device.

This comes as the smartphone is found to be running on the old Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset which has faced certain issues with regards to update compatibility. Android 5.0 Lollipop didn’t start rolling out to the 2013 Moto X until recently, but the Android 5.1 update might not take all that long considering that soak test invites are already being sent out in Brazil.

The 2014 Moto X also received soak test invites for the Android 5.1 update recently. We’re not sure if Motorola will be able to go on with the update process smoothly, but we hope the company will keep us updated on any developments. Android 5.1 only brings a couple of visual changes from Android 5.0, so not a lot is different in terms of the UI, but it’s still a very significant update for the company.
