If you dislike having to buy gift cards, don’t like making sure your debit or credit card is valid, or setting up a PayPal account, direct carrier billing is your best and most convenient option. When you use this option, purchases are billed directly to your monthly phone bill.

Google has updated their support article about carrier billing with five new carriers in 5 new countries across the globe:

  • France – Free (9 million)
  • Hungary – TMI (Magyar Telekom), (5.4 million)
  • Indonesia – Telkomsel (1.7 million)
  • Slovakia – PPF (O2), (7.6 million)
  • Taiwan – Taiwan Mobile (139 million)

While the smaller carriers may not be a huge deal, Taiwan Mobile is clearly a big gain for Google’s Mobile Carrier Billing service. Over 20 million Android users are on that carrier alone, making up 55% of the smartphone marketshare on that carrier.

The only carrier with any sort of limit on the amount of purchases that can be made is Telkomsel in Indonesia, which allows up to IDR 2M ($155) per day. If you’re on any of these carriers in the new countries, enjoy your new purchasing option.
