After the Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 Compact, the Xperia Z2 also receiving Android 5.0

Xperia Z2

The Sony Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 Compact started receiving the Android 5.0 update yesterday. The company also began the update rollout for the Xperia Z2 Tablet and the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact today. A new revelation tells us that the update has also been sent out to customers of the Xperia Z2 as well, which is the company’s flagship from early 2014.

The update should bring similar changes as the Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 Compact as there aren’t a lot of hardware differences. Sony uses a skinned version of Android here, so you might not see Material Design elements everywhere in the user interface.

An important addition with the update is Silent Mode, which is not available on stock Android. Customers have often complained about this, so it’s good to see that Sony is doing something to change that. The update is currently being spotted in the D6503 version of the Xperia Z2. The firmware version of the update changes to 23.1.A.0.690 after the update.
