Google reportedly sold 10 million units of the Chromecast in 2014

The Google Chromecast has been a massive success for the company. Ever since it was announced in 2013, it has made its way to a wide range of homes. A new report now suggests that Google sold over 10 million units of this HDMI streaming dongle in the past year alone. The number is quite impressive, even when we consider the fact that these many units were sold globally.

The device was ranked as the number one media streaming device in the U.S. last year, although Google failed to share information on exact numbers. This new revelation was made by Google’s South Korean wing, thanks to some uncovering done by a local media outlet.

The Chromecast allows users to stream content from a wide selection of providers and also allows users to mirror the screen of their Android device. The report further suggests that there are over 6,000 developers across the world working tirelessly to bring apps to the Chromecast, with the app tally expected to have reached 10,000 by now.
