Display maker JDI announces a new low energy smartwatch display

JDI Smartwatch Display

Japanese display panel manufacturer JDI has just announced a new low energy smartwatch display meant for use on wearables. The company has experience in manufacturing large screen displays from quite some time now, so it was only a matter of time before the manufacturer forayed into the wearable segment.

The highlight of this new display is that it will be power efficient, which essentially means that it can eke out more display on time compared to the smartwatches that are available in the market today. If you’ve owned a smartwatch, one of your primary complaints will have to be about the battery life. But with a display panel like this, those worries can be put to rest.

We can expect manufacturers to look towards JDI for wearables later this year. Smartwatches have been off to a moderate start so far, but if OEMs can write off poor battery backup from their list of cons, the market could be more receptive towards the idea.
