British luxury phone maker, Vertu has just announced its new range of Alligator Diamonds series of smartphones based on its existing Signature Touch and Aster handsets. The Pure Jet Alligator Diamonds model heads the list and comes with pure alligator skin, white gold detail on the speaker grille, 124 white diamonds set in a white gold pillow trim. All of this enclosed in a body of brushed and polished black PVD titanium.
The smartphone also comes with a 4.7 inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 801 SoC, a 13-megapixel Hasselblad certified camera sensor, 64GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM and Android 4.4 KitKat. Unlike older Vertu phones, the new breed sport decent hardware as well, so you’re not merely paying for the materials used on the device. The price of the device has been set at €15,900 ($18,708).
There are slightly cheaper versions of the Alligator Diamonds series of smartphones based on the Vertu Aster hardware. These will be available in Red or Black color variants and come studded with polished Stainless Steel V pillow, polished titanium black PVD upper back plate and black/red alligator leather casings. The hardware is near identical to the Signature Touch series, so you can expect the same specs sheet on the device as the Pure Jet Alligator Diamonds model. These two variants will go slightly easier on your wallets at €8,900 ($10,470).
